A/N: Written for the PMMM Flash Bingo, #109 – Hitomi/Kyousuke
Too Close or Too Far
She knew she shouldn't be falling for him, but she couldn't quite help herself. And it was just that much harder, knowing she was potentially stealing something away from one of her best friends.
And, honestly, she didn't deserve him anyway. She wasn't the one who was at his bedside every day, trying to cheer him up, trying to keep the light alive in his eyes – but at the same time, that might be what gave her the edge. It was a cruel thought because it was Sayaka and not just anybody, but there was a such thing as being too close and Hitomi was beginning to hope more and more that this was the case.
And when she met Kyousuke on the bench that afternoon and confessed and he accepted her feelings and decided to get to know her better, she knew she was right. Sayaka was too close, and she was happy but it was sad as well, because she knew how Sayaka had felt about him, what she was encroaching on.
But Sayaka had taken her chance and chosen to step aside, and Hitomi had chosen to accept that sacrifice. Maybe that was a choice only two friends could make. Or maybe it was the wrong thing after all. But it was long since too late.
