"Chris will you calm down a bit?" Jean begged getting annoyed with his grumpiness.
"No, I can't wait any more; they should have rung by now!" Chris snapped.

"Yes I know but they haven't, anyway there are a lot of people awaiting their results."

"Even so, it should be done by now, I left it an hour, it was supposed to be 11 and it's now 10 past 12." It was his last exams from Hendon he was waiting for, the ones that determined whether or not he could go into the force. He'd done the whole waiting for results thing when it was GCSE and A-levels but never has it been this delayed.

"Are you sire you gave them the right number?" Jean asked her son.

"Yes." Chris replied as he repeated the number and Jean nodded, "Is the phone definitely working mum?"

"Yeah, James rang me on it this morning." Jean replied as she went to check anyway only to find that it was in fact dead. "Honey it's not working! I don't know what's happened to it."

"Move out of the way mum." He wasn't usually so rude to his mum but right now his future rested on that phone call. "It's all plugged in, is there any life to it mum?" Chris asked as he was on his hands and knees sorting out cables.

"No sweetie."

"Well now what the hell am I supposed to do?!"

"Calm down, it's not my fault that the phones broken! How about I drive you down to Hendon to see if we can pick them up?"

"But what if they're closed mum?" Chris asked, the sadness and worry now clear in his voice breaking her heart.

"Right we'll go down and you ring James and ask him to find the number and ring to make sure someone's there."

"Why can't we ring?"
"We haven't got time to find the number, it's wasting time." Jean said as she passed her son her phone.

"Hey baby." James answered the phone.

"Hi, it's Chris."

"Is your mum okay?"

"Yeah, she's driving. Is there anyway you can ring Hendon and check someone's still there and stays there until we get there?"

"Of course I can, I can still remember waiting for my results. Don't they still ring?"

"They would if our phone worked."

"Ah, don't worry we'll sort it."

"Thanks James."

"There you go, you passed! I told you you'd be okay. I'm so proud of you sweetie." Jean said putting her arm around Chris as they walked out of Hendon's ground to the car.
