Disclaimer: I don't own Pokémon. I am just writing this.

Picnicker Liz sat near the phone booth on Route 32. She was starting to feel lonely these days as she had no one to call on her PokéGear other than her best friend, Tania. All of her friends were either busy with their Pokémon journeys, school or didn't want to hang out with her because she was annoying. Liz meant well, but some of her friends thought that she was annoying because she would constantly ring them over a thousand times a day on the PokéGear. This was starting to make Liz feel very sad. Even her beloved Nidoran couldn't cheer her up. All Liz wanted to do was to have a whole network of friends.

But that all changed one day when Picnicker Liz was on the phone to Tania.

"Uh-huh. Yeah, and you know..." Liz started to say before she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. Liz turned around and saw a teenage girl carrying a Poké Ball in her hand.

"I want to challenge you to a Pokémon battle!" the girl said.

"Pardon? A Pokémon battle? I'm on the phone." Liz said to the girl.

The girl sighed impatiently, hinting that Liz should get off the phone and battle her.

"Oh, all right. I'll accept your challenge. Gotta go, Tania." Liz said before hanging up the phone and facing the girl.

"You ready?" the girl asked her.

"You bet I am. Go Nidoran!" Liz said before letting her Nidoran out of her Poké Ball.

"A female Nidoran, huh? Not bad. My Pokémon for this battle will be Chikorita!"

The girl's Chikorita came out ready to battle Liz's Nidoran .

"Alright, Nidoran. Scratch that Chikorita!" Liz commanded.

As Nidoran went to use Scratch on Chikorita, the girl ordered the Grass-type Pokémon to use Razor Leaf. Chikorita managed to hit Nidoran perfectly using its Razor Leaf. The force of the attack caused Nidoran to be instantly KO'd.

"Take it easy! That's mean!" Liz whined as she picked up her Nidoran.

"There's no need to whine about losing." the girl said, extending her hand. "The name's Lyra."

Liz shook Lyra's hand before replying, "I'm Liz and I'm a Picnicker."

"Nice." Lyra said.

Liz noticed that Lyra had a PokéGear attached to her bag.

"You have a PokéGear?" Liz asked her.

"Yes, I do. My Mom got it for me to keep in contact with her while I'm on my Pokémon journey." Lyra said.

"Oh! You're on a big journey to see the sights? Neat! Let's be friends! Can I have your phone number? I want to hear about everything you've seen!" Liz said.

"Sure." Lyra said.

Liz and Lyra then registered each other's phone numbers in their respective PokéGear's.

"I'll telephone you if I hear anything interesting." Liz said.

"Sure thing. See you around, friend." Lyra said, waving Liz goodbye.

Liz waved back and for the first time in a while, she smiled.

"Take care." Liz said before returning to the phone booth.

And that was the day Picnicker Liz became friends with Lyra.
