Hey, guys, this is my first story. I'm just making sure that this works, so this might be really bad. Anyway, try to enjoy!

Jonas woke up feeling light. Everything felt light. He tried to sit up, but then he fell back down again. He decided to look at his unusual surroundings. Above him was white. Next to him: white. Below him: white. Everything was white. For a second, he thought that he was back in his less than perfect community. But there were no people. No buildings.

He also noticed that he was not wearing his bland tunic anymore, but white dress pants and a button up shirt. He slowly started to lift himself up again, his tired muscles straining. From this point of view, he could see a white door with a black outline of a cloud with rays coming from it. He started to reach for the oddly colored brass knob, when he heard a deep voice from behind.

"Jonas." He stopped and turned around to see a giant man dressed the same as he. The man stepped forward.

"Jonas," he repeated. "Do you know where you are?" Jonas shook his head, too afraid to speak. The giant man smiled. He beckoned for Jonas to come forth with his hand.

"Come, let me show you something." Jonas followed the man to a window that he had not seen before. This window, though, was different from the rest of the room. It suddenly changed like the apple had. Changed in color. Instead of white, the window was a multitude of colors. He followed as the man opened the window and looked out.

He turned back to Jonas, and beckoned him as he had done before. Jonas stepped forward and looked out at the scene.

The first thing he saw was green. Green bushes and grass. Then he saw a little boy—a four—playing by the river. The four then fell in the water. Jonas saw him thrash around a bit before coming still. Jonas turned to the man in horror.

"Why have you shown this to me?" The man gave him a longing gaze, and then a sad smile.

"Jonas," he said sadly. "I am Caleb, the four who fell in that river."

Jonas stumbled away from Caleb, the now fully grown man before him. There was no possible way for that tiny four, to be the huge man who stood before him now. Caleb smiled.

"If you will allow it, I do want to show you some other things, Jonas." Jonas hesitated at first, but then nodded slowly. They walked back to the window, now a different scene playing below them.

Jonas recognized his old community, the House of the Old. He saw a group of people gathered around it, all of them clutching their heads in agony. He then saw the Giver stand before them, the glint of Fiona's hair in the audience.

He felt Caleb's hand across his back and turned to face him. He saw another window, and walked over to look out.

He saw a woman holding a wrapped child. If he looked close enough, he could see that the child had the same pale eyes as he. Gabe. Gabe had made it to Elsewhere. But if Gabe was there, where was Jonas?

The woman and Gabe were in a house; Jonas could sense that it was warm. The woman set Gabe into a crib and turned off his light. Jonas looked back at Caleb.

"Where am I, Caleb?" He smiled down at Jonas.

"Soon, Jonas, soon you will know." Jonas looked back at the white door. Maybe this was Elsewhere. Maybe Jonas was where he belonged. Caleb came up behind him.

"I think that it is time, Jonas. I think that it is time for you to move on." Jonas slowly walked to the door and turned the handle. A blinding light filtered into the room. Suddenly, a shadow covered him. He looked up to see another giant man, dressed in robes. He smiled down at him.

"Welcome home, Jonas."
