Perhaps it was the soft pitter patter of the rain that beat down on the roof that made the moment magical. Or was it the subtle glow of the television screen that alit Natsu's tan skin? Gray could only guess. Something created a simple, no, complicated feeling in that moment. The fleeting second.

Gray had known Natsu for years, since childhood. They went to the same primary school. Years of broken up fights, unexplained bumps and scratches, and a rivalry to last followed. The pair had certainly been a whirlwind – like fire and ice. Both had an unwavering dislike for the other, both wanted to strangle the other. That's why their current friendship was odd, unlikely even.

Sighing, Gray shifted in his seat, the worn out cushion made his back ache. Hell, he was living alone as a high school student, he couldn't really afford anything else. The TV was switched onto a boring, cliché show about a girl who finds unlikely love with a school rival. Gray hated those the most. He felt that the overused plot was a go-to for many writers. He'd rather see some chick-flick about vampires than sit through that. But, alas, it was two in the morning, it was either that or annoying ads on loop.

Natsu shifted his position, his head falling onto Gray's shoulder. Gray inwardly groaned before glancing at his best friend. The soft salmon locks pooled into his unusually calm visage. Slightly marred skin never looked so appealing to Gray. The way his mouth twitched downwards and the soft breath that came out in soft puffs seemed oh so alluring to the ebony haired male.

It was in that moment that Gray came to a sudden realization: despite his hatred for things hot, he felt himself falling in love with fire.
