Author's Note: This is about as close to a eulogy for Gin as I can get.
Disclaimer: I don't own Bleach.
He wasn't, at least not in his eyes though everyone else believed he was a traitor. Gin wouldn't have minded—he was always sure that whatever happened, what he did would be worth it.
Everyone considered him a traitor to someone, be it the Gotei Thirteen or Rangiku or Aizen himself, though in spirit he really was to none. By Gin's own logic he had always been loyal, at some level to the former two and he was never loyal to Aizen, no matter what anyone thought.
Gin knew that no matter what happened, he would almost certainly end his life vilified by everyone. And it didn't bother him. There was very little that truly bothered him anymore.
He could always wear a smile on his face because he knew that with Aizen gone the main threat to Soul Society would at least be gone, that the one he'd hated for so long until he barely recognized himself would be gone, and he could finally rest easy even if it was the final rest—to be killed by Aizen or Seireitei.
Gin had never been a traitor to anyone, but there was no one who could attest to that.
There would be no witnesses, after all.
No one who could confirm or deny anything.
It was better that way. That was how it suited him.
And when he was gone, there would be no one to remember how Gin had never really betrayed anyone.
He didn't want to be the hero of anyone's story.
