AN:/ Set right after the Conqueror's attack on Athlum, don't read if you don't want spoilers. Also, if some characters seem out of place, it's because I haven't played The last Remnant – awesome game, BTW – in a while.
When Emma Honeywell II, alias Emmy, discovered that her mother died after the Conqueror's attack on Athlum she was devastated, because she never had the opportunity of making amends with her. After that, she was shocked again, this time with a bit more joy, as she recognized the young man that had called her "Old Lady" at least three times – all of them in different cities. Now she understood why: it was because she was almost identical to her deceased mother. Of course, right after she heard the terrible news, she sworn an oath of loyalty to David Nassau, the governor of Athlum and a friend of her mother, not just "her Lord". It would have been an insult to her mother's memory not to do so.
But now they were at the burial. In Emma's testament it was stated that her wish was to be buried, as well as to give her swords to her daughter. Lots of people attended the ceremony, and lots of tears were shed, but none of them were Emmy's. She was in shock, very sad, yes, but she couldn't cry nor move. As the ceremony ended, the crowd started to disperse, and in the end, only the four – now three – generals of Athlum, their leader and that guy (Rush was his name, wasn't it) stayed in front of the tomb.
- I'm really sorry. – said David, to no one in particular. – I shouldn't have let her stay here when the attack started.
- It isn't your fault, My lord. – answered Pagus, trying to comfort him.
- Yeah, it's the Conqueror's fault, my lord, and we'll see that he pays for what he's done! - said Blocter, punching his hand. – He's not just stolen the Valeria Heart, he's murdered a lot of people, and our friends and comrades!
- Blocter, I share your concern, but you have to understand the fact that we can't rush things, and act patiently – answered Torgal. - And now what we must do is rebuild the city, and don't let emotions blind our common sense.
- But..!
- Blocter, please, don't make this harder than it already is. - said David, shaking his head.
- Don't worry so much – intersected Emmy, trying to look reassuring. - I think the last thing she would have wanted was to create a dispute or lead the city to disgrace just because of us trying to avenge her.
- Yes, we'll avenge her, one way or another, we just have to wait – said Rush, trying to lighten the mood. - And c'mon! Emma wouldn't have wanted to see us all here, crying , she'd have wanted us to rebuild Athlum, so her... – Rush was trying to find the appropriate word (one that didn't hurt any feelings). - effort wouldn't go to waste! Let's rebuild the city and go after that Conqueror guy!
And as all of them, still sad and grieving, left Emma's tomb, her daughter looked back and smiled.
