It was an exciting time at Tarrytown Airport, as Savannah the big sonic jet, was due to return from an important business trip across Europe.
Although all the jets were happy that she was coming back to Tarrytown, the one most excited was Orland. He wanted to learn all about what Savannah had seen in Europe, as he had never been there before- plus, he hadn't seen her for a long time.
"Now remember, Savannah will be very tired when she comes home, so let her rest." Old Oscar told the young jets firmly.
But although the others agreed to this, Orland wasn't listening to the elderly plane, as he was too excited on seeing Savannah come home.
But she didn't come back to Tarrytown until after dark, well past the planes' bedtime. She was very tired after her very long journey, so she headed off to her hangar to sleep.
But she soon found that Orland wasn't asleep at all.
"Hey Savannah - how was your trip to Europe?"
"It went very well, Orland, thank you." Savannah replied, failing to hide a yawn. But Orland didn't notice this.
"So Savannah, what did you see in Europe? What did you do?"
"Orland, please- I'm very tired." Savannah told him. "I'll tell you in the morning, honey."
But Orland was too impatient to wait until morning to hear of her adventures.
"Who did you meet over there, Savannah? Is Europe a big place?"
"Yes, it's a very big continent." She told him.
"What is a continent?" He asked.
"It's a group of countries that are neighbours more or less. Now Orland sugar, could you please let me sleep?"
This question made Orland very angry.
"You know what, if you want to sleep more than talk to me, fine! I think you're a stupid plane! In fact, you're the stupidest plane I've ever met!"
And he zoomed off to his hangar; leaving a shocked Savannah to cry quietly about how mean Orland had been to her. She tried to sleep that night, but thoughts of what Orland had called her kept her awake all night.
...
The next morning, Orland, having forgotten about his spat, went to see Savannah in her hangar.
"Morning Savannah- do you want to play a game with me?"
"No. In fact, I'm leaving Tarrytown for good, and go back to Europe. What you said last night hurt my feelings." She said to Orland.
Orland then remembered his argument with Savannah, and he felt terrible.
"I'm sorry Savannah! You're not the stupidest plane I've met- in fact, you're really smart. You know more about the world than I do. I'm sorry for what I said."
"Apology accepted Orland." Savannah smiled.
"So, you're not leaving the airport?" He asked hopefully.
"Well, I am, but I'll be flying a short distance." She told him.
"So where are you going?"
"I'm going to Smiling Meadows. I'll tell you of my stories there if you like."
"Okay!" Orland smiled. It was a sunny day, after all.
So Orland and Savannah flew off to Smiling Meadows together, side by side.
