Chapter 1
It had been over a year since their parents were murdered. It had been violent and all the girls could do was watch. Their father was gunned down first, then their mother, when they refused to give up any information on their daughters.
Shea, the younger out of the two sisters, had basically dragged Grace from the house. Grace had fought, and cursed her sister but Shea stayed strong. She knew that their freedom depended on them not getting captured.
From that day, the two girls were on the run. They stayed in a place long enough to get some cash in order to move again. From there, they would randomly point to a new destination on a map and off they would go.
Together the girls settled into the newest of their hotel rooms. They didn't bother to unpack. They needed to be able to make a quick getaway if it became necessary. Their car was parked within feet of the door.
Sighing Grace flopped on the bed and turned the tv down low. She studied the room with disgust.
"Couldn't we get someplace better?"
"There wasn't another hotel that fit our needs," Shea said.
"This place is gross. How long do we need to stay here?"
"As long as it takes. We need money Grace. This place will have to do until we can move again."
Shea was sitting on the other twin bed with a newspaper spread out in front of her. She was highlighting and circling as she studied the job section.
"So, what's available job wise?"
"Well, there are two diners that are hiring. Not much else. We'll go check them out tomorrow."
"Okay. I think I'm going to start trying to sleep."
"That is a good idea."
Both girls took turns using the shower and changing into their night clothes before settling down for the night. Shea pulled out the pistol that was always kept within reach, setting it on the night table before turning out the light.
"Good night," Grace's voice whispered in her mind.
"Good night."
