This is an older story I wrote a while back. I had it posted but took it off to fix a few things. For those who have read this already, I hope it is better than before!

BTW-Roy and Riza are married in this Fic.

Disclaimer: I don't own FMA

Riza was sitting up in bed reading a book, the bedside table's lamp the only light source in the darkened room. Roy lay beside her, sound asleep, and every now and then she'd look over and watch the subtle rise and fall of his chest. His scraggly black hair was strewn everywhere and she had to laugh. He was never this quiet when he was awake. Rain was pouring down, a quiet tip-tap against the windows and roof. It was nights like tonight she wished sleep came a little easier.

She glanced at the clock. One thirty. She sighed before placing the bookmark in the pages and closing the book, setting it on the table next to her. Her elbow was rested on the pillow with her hand nestling her chin. She watched Roy sleep, and she had to smile when the sound of light snoring caught her ears.

A few minutes went by before his sleeping form stirred, turning over in the bed. His eyes met hers and she gave an exhausted smile.

"Is everything alright?" he asked. His voice was filled with concern.

"Yeah, it's just this rain. You know I'm a light sleeper."

Roy sat up, saying, "Close your eyes and listen to it. It sounds more like music to me."

She did as he said, closing her eyes and listening as the drops pounded against the roof, and soon, the rain did sound more like music. A gentle melody that sounded like a million heartbeats going all at once. She had never really thought about rain being like music, but she welcomed the idea. It was quite beautiful.

Roy's voice cut in to her thoughts. "Doesn't it sound peaceful?"

Her eyes remained closed but her lips curved back into a small smile. She felt the bed shift then her husband's lips catch her own in a short but passionate kiss. "I love you," he said once he pulled away.

"I love you too," she paused, opening her eyes to meet his. "You know what, the rain sounds beautiful and all, but…" She touched his nose playfully and smiled. "It's not as beautiful as hearing you say 'I love you'."
