Chapter 00: Silly Trains
Her eyes wandered towards the oncoming train. The heavy sounds of the wheels echoed through the station. Loud whistles rattled daily commuters.
The station bustled with life, people from all over the country gathered to experience a new form travel, railroad travel. With old money buying and investing in railroads, Great Britain bustled with the new age product of the revival of industrial revolution.
"So lively isn't it." it was more of a statement then a question. The women only obliged with a short smile barely visible behind her green parasol. The man returned the gesture, his height barely towering the young beauty.
"Where is such a beautiful women headed, unaccompanied and all." The young women turned her full attention to the young man; her emerald eyes contrasted her velvet silk hair. Her appealing aura did not come from her subtle good looks, but from her mesmerizing orbs that held a different shade of green he had ever seen.
"No where in particular that may interest you, and I prefer to travel alone." Her tone of voice was held in a form stability and serenity, even if what she had said was a contrary. They continued their conversation over trivial things which led to their dreams they'd hope to accomplish and then to emotional depths of their own person. They spoke to one another as old friends, there meeting led to an instant connection.
The call for the young lady's train was announced through the crowds, it was time for her departure.
"If you'll excuse me, I have a train to catch. It was truly nice meeting you."
She took hold of her leather bounded trunk case, followed by her carry on. The young man was left at a loss of words to see the strength the young lady possessed, she hadn't even asked for assistance. He wondered who exactly she was.
"Wait, miss I didn't catch your name. "
She stopped suddenly to turn back and projected her voice to surpass the booming noise of her surroundings.
"It's Aurora Rosenthal."
Her smiled radiated through the station, it had put time to a halt so he could savor that precise moment. He watched her enter her cart, before realizing he didn't give her his name. He watched her take her seat closest to where he stood, he watched as she glanced through the window.
"My name is Vincent Phantomhive." His name was lost through the sound of the roaring engine ascending to its destination. The last image he witnessed of her was her smile that reflected her entire being.
He would have savored her company much more if he'd known that was the last time he'd see her until he was 25.
The young man from that day would turn into a powerful man who ran most of England's industry and the underground. He would marry a beautiful young woman who'd give him a beautiful heir. Though he seemed to have it all, the girl from then haunted his thoughts from time to time. He pondered on the idea if he would have married her instead. He still wonders if she'd fulfilled her dreams of becoming a concert pianist. Or if she had gotten married and done well. He searched for her, but it seemed the last time London had seen her was 3 years ago. She left the country to Australia, leaving only her mysteries behind.
That was until he attended a gathering for the queens underground. He was as surprised of her arrival as the rest. She was there on behalf of the queens orders.
Both their gazes met, and he took note of the change in her eyes. Her stance was much more confident and refined, and she spoke elegantly and organized. When she spoke the room stood silent. Was she the girl from that day?
After her introduction and reasoning she excused herself and warned them they may not interfere with her plans, and just simply place their faith in her and the queen. Many were hesitant, but when Vincent gave his approval many soon followed. They trusted him more than anyone.
After the gathering he approached Aurora, to be met with an embrace. She said nothing other then the fact that she needed to see him.
"Where have you been?" Her eyes never left his, as he placed his hand over hers.
"I ran away from monsters." He wanted to understand who these monsters were.
"What monsters?" His body moved much closer to hers involuntarily. He knew if he moved closer he would play a dangerous game.
"The ones you play with," in that moment his lips crashed onto hers and they held to that moment knowing it was taboo. Vincent would have hoped if she would have been present in his life at the right time. He didn't want to degrade her to a simple mistress. Their passion led them into a path of no return.
That was the only occasion they ever had, after her time working alongside them she distanced herself entirely, and he didn't mind. After her tome was done she disappeared once again. He still lingered on her words, 'from the monsters you work with', she wasn't human he thought.
He carried that thought until his death. When the news ran through the country of the death of lord Phantomhive and his wife, she attended the burial to find closure of some kind. She truly found none.
"Humans are such vulnerable things, aren't they Vincent. They can disappear almost in an instant. It futile to love your kind...i wonder what I felt was truly love or simply attachment?" She placed a sunflower on his tombstone. People asked why a sunflower, she replied 'why not, I believe his spirit resembled the vibrancy of a sunflower rather the roses. Roses are much over used'.
Aurora's name would never leave his lips again would they; she was once again just a girl waiting alone for the next train. Watching lives go by, while she never aged with them. Ohh the envy.
Her time with the Phantomhive's would soon come again with the young lord. Her existence will set turbulence on his goals of revenge; she may then finally answer the question shes been dreading to answer, "Can she really not die?"
