Dedication: To my friend Manna (Known as Kitten Kisses). Merry Christmas.

True Fear

White flour covered the floor like a thick blanket, hiding the wood paneling underneath. Along the wall were smears of chocolate, staining pictures and royal blue drapes. Some unidentifiable red filling coated a large mixing bowl, some of it dribbling off the side and forming a puddle around the instrument.

The cook book was next to the cracked egg shells, it's white pages untouched by the chaotic debris that wrecked the rest of the kitchen. It was turned to a page with the headline "A Simple Cake", though the resulting destruction to property seemed anything but simple.

Raine Sage stood rigid against the counter, her head bowed as she stared at her creation-- her cake. Though calling it a cake would be polite. More precisely is was a strange brownish blob with runny sides and a very strange aroma which bordered on old laundry.

Turning her head around slowly, she took on a conspiratorial face.

"Genis…" She said sweetly, her small brother staring at her in fear. She turned her entire body then, the cake-blob on a platter in her hands. She forced a wide smile which she hoped made her look sweet and innocent, though it really just made her look like she was psychotic. "I've made a…er.." She looked down at the thing in her hands for a moment before returning her gaze to Genis and smiling widely. "…A cake."

"…I'm not eating that." Genis said, uselessly trying to muster some bravery into his voice. Raine closed her eyes and strained her smile. She took an intimidating step forward.

"Why not?" She questioned, the cake-blob sluggishly moving on it's own in her hands. Genis stepped back and bumped into the wall. He threw a despairing look behind him. He was trapped.

"Please Raine…don't…!"

"Don't be so silly Genis." Raine said, opening her eyes. "It can't be…er…that bad."

Genis raised a silver eyebrow. "Really?"

"Yes, Really!" Raine hissed, stepping forward. "Eat it Genis!…Or else." Her face turned dark and Genis' entire being was filled with an ominous sort of feeling. Complete fear.

"R-raine…."

"Yes, darling brother of mine?"

"I…It's…moving."

Raine looked confused for a moment and halted her advance, which would surely end in her brother's demise. (Or at least food poisoning) "What's moving?"

Genis' eyes were wide. "The cake….It's moving!" He shouted madly. Raine made a sound of surprise and looked down at the cake which had sprouted small tentacles and thrashed them about. She scream and tossed the dessert up. It sailed and spattered on the floor, the tentacles of chocolate still moving wildly.

"Ahh! It's a monster!" Genis gasped. Raine hurried to the wall where her staff lay. Grabbing it she turned around to see the cake strike Genis across the face, sending him to the ground. She closed her eyes and began chanting, an aura of light surrounding her body.

"Light! Photon!"

The molecules around the cake-monster drew together tightly then combusted, destroying the massive blob instantly. Raine lowered her staff , before she fell to her knees, looking forward vacantly.

Disoriented, Genis sat up and rubbed his red cheek. He glared at Raine. "…I'm making dinner." He spat. "Go outside until I'm done."

Though normally Raine would most certainly not take that type attitude from her little brother, or tone of voice, she did as instructed and stood up shuffling out of the room quickly, her head hung low in shame. Genis watched her retreating form until she disappeared out the door.

Now he understood true fear.
