Title: Darkness Hides Her Face
Fandoms: Avatar/Sailormoon
The white mask covered the scar that ruined the smooth line of his left cheek, nearly obscuring his golden eye. It seemed that the mask had become as much a part of his face as the scar had, all those years ago. It was certainly becoming an almost nightly part of his apparel, just as dreams of a slender woman with chocolate skin and bright blue eyes had become nightly fare. Through the streets of the Fire Nation he ran, following the nearly painful tug in his abdomen that let him know she was near, the sweet, crystalline tones of her voice from his dream chasing him as he leapt from rooftop to rooftop. It was a voice he recognized, but couldn t place, and the thought that he might already know this vision forced him to meet the eyes of every girl he saw, anywhere he went, in the hopes that one of them would have the ones in his dream.
The short skirt left her legs bare, a peculiar feeling at first, but one she was now accustomed to. At home, in the South Pole, she would have frozen in this outfit, and she was very nearly certain that if she hadn t, her grandmother would have rather seen her dead than wearing something so skimpy. It had been disconcerting to find herself in something so scandalous when she woke in the night those many months ago, but not as upsetting as realizing that in this form, she had no ability to Bend. Instead, a warm light-based energy, not Fire, Water, Earth or Air, seemed to grow inside of her.
And then there was him. Taller than she, with dark hair and pale skin, there was something familiar about the rough, gravely voice that sent shivers up her spine. A prickle on the back of her neck made her spin, her foe having fallen just moments before and she looked up to the nearest rooftop.
They stared across the dozen or so yards between them, neither recognizing the other behind the disguise as a bolt of visceral emotion passed over the air, startling them both with its intensity. Without a word, he lept from the roof to stand in front of her, his hands reaching for the small brown ones that she offered. The sudden appearance of the Dai Li startled them both out of their reverie and they broke apart, dashing away from their pursuers, both desperate to know the identity of the other, and equally determined to keep their own a secret.
