A/N: This is my first multi-chapter Fullmetal story! Ed is twelve here, and it takes place in the 2003 series after the Youswell coal mine episode, before it switches to when Ed is fifteen. This idea kind just came to me at random, and I was delighted to realize that I haven't seen the same anywhere on this sight. I apologize if it had been done before, though.

This story will indeed feature quite a bit of Parental! Roy/Ed, and maybe just a slight inkling teeny-weeny itsy-bitsy little-bitty microscopic tiny hint of a hint of EdWin, and same for Royai, maybe perhaps.

Just to let you know.

I mean, I'm not a big romantic shipper for FMA, but I appreciate Royai and Edwin as cannon, so...yeah.

...So, without further ado, here is the first chapter of Under New Command! Enjoy!

Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. Roy Mustang simply could not believe what he was hearing.

"The Fullmetal Alchemist will be under my command from now on, Colonel Mustang." Brigadier General Basque Gran stood in his office, scowling at the mentioned colonel.

"Wh-what? But, Brigadier General-"

"No buts, Mustang. I do not see you fit to have another subordinate stationed under you, much less an incredibly capable State Alchemist." The gruff man waved the colonel off, interrupting his objections.

Mustang was seething on the inside. He was the one who found the kid, and he was the one who convinced him to become a State Alchemist! He should have the kid on his team, Goddammit! But the man kept his cool composure, retaining his mask of indifference, though the brigadier general could see the sting in his eyes from being called 'unfit'.

"Is that understood, Mustang?"

Roy's voice trembled slightly from hidden rage. "Yes sir." He saluted.

"Alright, you're dismissed." Gran waved him off.

Mustang turned and fled the office in a quick flurry of back and deep blue, not slowing or stopping until he had entered his own room. He sat himself in the leather chair behind his desk and planted his head in his hands, elbows on the desk.

"Sir? What did the brigadier general need?" Hawkeye looked at the colonel with concern. The man shook his head.

"The bastard...he's taking Fullmetal."

Heh...that was...short. Sorry for that, I've got serious issues with ending things, and I figured this was a good place to stop, so...heh. The next one will definitely be longer, this was just a prologue.

Anyway, reviews very muchly appreciated, especially constructive criticism. I would love to know what all I could do better!
