disclaimer: yes like I really own Avatar, seriously if I did I wouldn't have added the kiss seen at the end of the series. I mean come on after the lightning how can Katara even look at Aang!
Alas on with the one shot (there will be no sequel, hence the one shot)
The end of 8th grade was supposed to be a big event… somehow Katara didn't look at it that way. To be honest she was ready to get the hell out of her stupid private middle school and onto high school. She was going to a different high school than the rest of her class mates who were all going to local public schools or private high schools. No she was going to a public high school all the way across town where she would probably never see any of her old class mates again save Suki who she went to karate with every weekend and Toph who lived close to her. The only thing Katara was looking forward to that had to do with the end of the year was the trip with her classmates to Echo Lake.
It was tradition for the 8th grade class to go Echo Lake and have a BBQ dinner the Saturday after the last day of school. Katara was going with Suki, Toph, Azula, and Ty Lee. It was fun they rode jet skis and swam and ate good food. But when the sun set and it came time to leave… well let's just say things got complicated.
Why do you ask? Well to simplify things Zuko.
Zuko was the hottest, most athletic, and most dated guy in school, and he was currently dating Mai.
When the time to say goodbye came Katara was the first one to the car, but the others were still saying goodbye. She went back to where they were and sent Azula and Toph on their way to the car, while she was trying to find Suki and Ty Lee she saw Zuko.
Katara walked up to him and said "Well we are heading out."
"Bye Katara" They hugged and while she was in his embrace she whispered in his ear
"As much against my better judgment as this is… I am going to miss you Zuko" with that she tore herself away from him and went to grab Ty Lee and Suki.
She found them easily and half dragged them to the car. She kept her voice rough as she brought them to the car. Stone Cold Karate Ninja's don't cry over boys she told herself. However in the protection of the darkness on the way to the car a single tear slid down her cheek as the warmth from Zuko's embrace began to fade.
