Miss Eyre
(Disclaimer: I do not own any rights to Silent Witness. The BBC does, but to be honest they need some help on the Nikki and Harry scenes and I will be more than happy to help)
"Harry?" Nikki said suddenly
"Mmm?" he said looking up from the report he was writing
"Do you really think I'm a little Jane Eyre fantasy?" she said referring an argument they had only a few weeks ago
"I thought I apologised for that" Harry frowned
"I know and I forgave you" she assured him "But what made you say it in the first place"
He was silent for a few moments "You reminded me of her" Harry shrugged
"In what way?" she pressed "Do you think I'm plain?"
"No!" Harry protested as he took in her appearance, Nikki was anything but plain. From how deep brown eyes to her sparkling smile, she really stood out from most other women "You're just so passionate" he explained
"Passionate?"
"Everything you do, you do it with so much force. You fight injustice and wrongdoers with a passion and you won't let go until justice has been served and the righteous prevail"
Nikki frowned at him "Are you mocking me?"
"No" he couldn't help but smile "For once Nikki, I am serious"
"I've never been sure whether to take your comment as a compliment or an insult"
"It's a compliment" he told her firmly "Jane Eyre is feisty and bold. She speaks her mind but maintains her dignity when it matters. She fights for what she knows is right but she is also able to retain passion. Her character is complex but that is all part of the appeal about her"
"Aren't you the expert" Nikki grinned and Harry just chuckled "So you still think I'm bloody and unbound?"
Harry nodded "I also think you're pig headed and stubborn as well" he grinned and she knew not to take his teasing to heart even if it did have an element of truth in it
"So if I'm Jane Eyre, Who's my Mr Rochester?" Nikki asked and she could have sworn she saw a faint pink flush spread into Harry's pale cheeks
"Well certainly not the men you've been dating. They're more like the mad woman in the attic than they are a Byronic hero"
Nikki feigned hurt but she couldn't keep it up for long, not when she was engaged in such a conversation with Harry
"Mr Rochester is a closed book" she told him "He keeps most people at a distance and his manner seems quite aloof sometimes. But his is quick witted and knows how to handle people. His past is dark but you can see he is a tormented soul just wishing to break free of the ghosts of his past…"
Harry took a shaky breath in as he continued to listen to what Nikki said
"…However he is capable of real passion. When Jane breaks through his outward manner she finds a very different man inside of him. One who is capable of passion and love even if they don't show it from the outside"
"They're driven apart though"
"Only temporality" Nikki told him "They are drawn to each other because they thoroughly compliment each other. Jane's deep rooted passion is awoken by Mr Rochester and she keeps his fiery temperament under check."
Neither Harry nor Nikki realised it but by this point they were inches away from each other. Nikki could see every lie and marking on Harry's face and he could see each swirl of pigment in her eyes
A sudden clearing of the throat brought them to their senses. They broke away only to see Leo standing there with his eyebrows raised
"Anyone with think this was a scene from Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre'" he sighed as he walked through the room. Leaving Harry and Nikki thoroughly shocked at what they had just heard.
Author's note: Jane Eyre is such an amazing book!
