After spending so much time connected with a Jaeger, you start to feel like a machine yourself. It's like your entire body was made of steel and your actions were computer-controlled – including your heart.

Before the final battle against the kaiju I tried to confess my feelings to Mako but I was never good enough with words. And, of course, I never did have good timing. Maybe my steel heart was the one to blame.

– Mirai. – She said to me after the helicopters rescued us. We were looking to the sky that never seemed so blue. Everything was done and we could breathe calmly again.

– Future? – I asked, translating the Japanese word.

– Yes. I never really thought about the future until now.

– You stole my words! – I replied, barely holding my smile.

– Yes. But my timing is much better than yours.

And we kissed. My heart was not automatic anymore.

Hello! This is my first time writing a fanfiction in English. It's a really short story but I hope you like it.

I'm Brazilian and my first language is Portuguese so I'm really nervous and hoping there are no mistakes.

Thank you very much for spending your time reading this and if you liked it please leave a review.
