The car makes that slow whine it does when it's trying to turn over. And after five tries, I give up. Great, looks like Monica and I are stuck here in Maine-- in the dead of winter no less. I hop out of the car into the freezing cold. I go back to the office to re-book our rooms, and call Skinner to apprise him of our situation. Coming back from the office I see Monica standing by the car freezing her cute little butt off.
"I thought you checked us out already?" she asks, blowing into her hands and then rubbing them together for added warmth.
"I got some bad news," I start, and her face falls.
"Oh no," she groans.
"Our car won't start. And with the coming storm all flights have been cancelled," I inform her of our situation. She groans.
"So we're stuck here in Podunk 'til further notice," she sighs. "Skinner's expecting us—we have that meeting this afternoon," she says and starts to shiver slightly.
"I already called Skinner, it's okay. Besides, are you really that eager to sit in a meeting while Agent Davies drones on about budgetary constraints?" I ask, trying to lighten her mood.
"No, but I do have a lot to do—my super is coming tomorrow to fix that loose floorboard, and—" I step into her, place my hands on her hips and gently press my lips against hers. Pulling back, I see her smile.
"I do have some good news," I start quietly, as I rub my hands up and down her arms to warm her up.
"What's that?" she asks.
"They already rented out your room," I say and see the confusion in her eyes.
"But mine was still free, so we'll just have to share," I say and grin. "Now let's get you inside before you turn into a Popsicle," I say, and lead her back into the room.
"On second thought, it might be fun to lick you all over," I murmur into her ear. She turns to me smiles widely, her mood already lifting.
"So how long do you think we'll be stuck here?" Monica asks as I start to remove her layers. I shrug.
"Dunno, but at least we have a few days to ourselves," I say quietly, and tuck some hair behind her ear, and lean in for another kiss.
We end up back in bed. And with Monica in my arms, I realize how easy it is to just shut out the rest of the world.
"I love you," I whisper into her hair.
"Love you, too John," she murmurs half asleep.
