Disclaimer: I don't own these characters.
He knew the symptoms of withdrawal. Most of the time he was just trying to hold himself together.
But today, all he could see were those eyes penetrating his whole existence.
He was strong of mind, and she knew why he was there.
"It's a lost cause." She told him. The voice was that of a woman, soft and lady-like with a hint of distress.
Ignoring her tone, he nodded and looked to the clouds.
"The overcast sky is my savior," he replied. "It keeps you safe, harsh and cold, you can never get hurt."
"What if I'm not strong enough?" Her voice was barely a whisper.
He looked out across the courtyard. Water droplets continued to fall, each making their own pattern of sound.
"We've hit solid ground mi Bella."
He stopped short.
"Have I ever told you death smells like flowers?" he inquired, his eyes bright with curiosity.
She took a step closer to him, a timid smile upon her face.
"I can smell it upon you. It's laced in your soul, and the instinct to kill flows through your blood. It's enchanting."
He closed his eyes, and took a deep breath.
"Like jasmine and roses."
"Even after everything we've been through?"
And with those words, the clouds became concrete, the courtyard a bare cell, and the rain a small leak in the corner. Chains held them back, never allowing embrace.
He watched as his illusion soared high above reality, and sputtering, hit the colorless ground with a thud.
It was just a trick of fate, their minds allowing some sort of closure. A twisted couple they were, and he smiled in her direction.
And without question, she returned the favor.
They were destined to sit and rot in their fantasies, the rest of their lives, while the world went on without them.
But what can I say? Once one of them went bad the other would soon too.
Blackened hearts always follow.

Thanks for reading. This is my first story without the help/guidance of my friends (Evie and Ava). I hope it turned out okay. I didn't really have a plot in mind at first, I had just taken my favorite phrases from other stories I had written (ones never posted or completed) and kind of strung them all together.
Please review!
