The Love Triangle
Chapter 1 - The Beginning
Pacifica Northwest's two best friends, baffled, stare at their superior in disbelief. After a few moments of silent judgment, one of them questions her decision.
"Wait, so you're actually considering inviting Dipper to your birthday party?"
Struggling not to come across as too different, Pacifica replies, "Come on, girls. He saved us all last night. It's the least I could do. Besides, what's so wrong with him?"
The rhetorical response was immediate. "What's wrong with him?! Are you joking? He's gross. All awkward and sweaty... and poor. He literally lives in a shack! They don't even try to hide it!"
Pacifica appears defeated by her friend's words, so her response is quieter.
"But he's... not a bad guy."
The other friend is quick to reply.
"Not a bad guy? Listen, you are way out of his league, girl. And what would you get out of it, hm? It seems like a waste of effort."
Pacifica, clearly on the defensive, does not hesitate. "Come on, guys. He literally saved my life!"
"Eww, now you're even starting to talk like him! 'Guys'? Since when were we 'guys'?"
Pacifica shot back. "Are you all serious right now? I hate living like this! Aren't you guys sick of living by 'high class' standards? I can't be alone in this. And I don't know... I think... I think Dipper and I had something special at that party. I mean, I could just be grateful because he got rid of the ghost... But he also introduced me to the world of not being like my parents. You know? It's always been 'fancy' this, and 'proper' that, 'do as I say', and 'we have a reputation to uphold'. I'm sick of it!"
"Girl, you need to chill." This thoughtless remark only served to aggravate Pacifica further, though she tries her best to suppress it. The other friend, who for a brief moment seemed to actually care, spoke.
"What does your family have to do with Dipper?"
Pacifica hesitated. "I... He was... I don't know. He helped me become a real person. I've never felt real before. I was always fake."
The friend who seemed to care suddenly descended to the level of the other with her comment.
"But he's a nerd. Never get too friendly with a nerd unless he's a billionaire. That's what my mom always said. And look where I am now!"
Pacifica's next words are audible and clearly defensive, but directed at no one in particular.
"Well then, I... I'm in... lov- with a n-n-ner-" She sighs. "Never mind".
