She woke with the feeling of being watched. The last tangible wisps of sleep fell smoothly away like silk across bare skin as the presence of another grew stronger in her mind.
The simmering blue heat of his eyes wes familiar, as was the controlled posturing of his whipcord body.
"I have to leave."
Hoshi saw that he was already back in uniform. It made his eyes seem lighter with azure flecks.
"I can't pretend to be something I'm not."
He came forward, taking her hand and turning it upward. Blue captured black as the air grew still, a harbinger of change. Leaning down, he kissed the faint indentions at the center of her palm.
"I'll wait for you," he pledged, his breath trailing down her life line, stopping where it faded into the slim curve of her wrist.

"Why?" Archer asked, the request for transfer weighed heavily in his hand. The blue incandescence of the padd casted a sharp glare upon his frowning face.
"Because it if came to saving Hoshi or the Enterprise," Malcolm replied, his gaze unwavering, his tone unapologetic, "I would save Hoshi."
