I-Chaya lifted his head at the sounds of the sand fire (1) beginning to brew outside.

He had been sleeping in the living room when the noise woke him up. I-Chaya noted with somewhat amusement and somewhat annoyance the he had begun to sleep more and more often.

He was getting old.

But this was besides the point. The point was is that a storm was starting up and I-Chaya knew the young cub(2) would be frighten of the storm. (He didn't care what Sarek said- Spock is a young cub of three years old and is also half-human, so it was perfectly logical in his opinion to show emotion, regardless if said emotion was fright. Sarek was just being a hypocrite.)

Spock never like sand fire storms and to be honest nether did I-Chaya. They were too loud, with strong winds blowing sand everywhere, blots of lighting striking were ever it saw fit, and thunder roaring with rage all the while.

Vulcans and sehlat a like could be kill in sand fires.

Thus, as Amanda wasn't here at the moment (she was visiting earth to see her friend who had been ill) , and Sarek found it illogical and unbecoming of a Vulcan to be scared of such things, I-Chaya would make sure the cub was alright and stay with him till the end of the storm.

I-Chaya stretched and shook his fur, before he began padding towards Spock's room.

As he walked through the halls I-Chaya thought about Vulcans and the views towards emotions. Did they really have no emotion as they claimed?

Of course not.

Sarek loved both his children and his wife Amanda, though he would never say so out loud.

He remembered from when he and Sarek were cubs, runs threw the halls, laughter coming from Sarek as I-Chaya chased him. He remembered Sarek's father looking at them in disapproval at their playing and his mother smiling softly.

It was moments like that I-Chaya knew that Vulcans had emotions.

I-Chaya stopped short in front of the door to Spock's room, staring at it for a moment.

The door was slightly cracked open and through the crack he could see little Spock in the corner of his room, curled up in a tight ball, trying to block out the noise.

For a moment I-Chaya thought once again of Sarek, who as a young boy had done something similar to what Spock was doing now during sand fires, despite that he now said it was illogical.

Shaking his head at old memories, I-Chaya pushed his way though the door and towards Spock.

Spock looked up, tears crawling down his face as he walked in, before Spock jumped up and threw his arms around I-Chaya, burrowing his head in I-Chaya fur.

I-Chaya nuzzled Spock, before turning towards Spock's bed, Spock following with his hands still griping I-Chaya's fur.

He pull the covers back slightly with his teeth, allowing Spock climb up on the bed and under the covers before pushing himself up onto the bed.

As he laid down on the bed, Spock pulled the covers over them, mumbling thanks to the sehlat, before curling into his fur.

With a small huff of amusement, I-Chaya nuzzle Spock once more before closing his eyes to take another nap.

While I-Chaya may not like Sand Fires, he loved how it used to allowed him curl up with Sarek, and now Spock, knowing that it was him that brought them comfort during the storm.

He loved his family, even if some of it claimed to not love.

And he would do anything to keep them safe.

End

(1) Sand Fires- a type of sandstorm that occurs on Vulcan. They can last from hours to days, but in this case it's just a few hours.

(2) Cub- I figure since I-Chaya is a sehlat, a giant "teddy bear" like creature on Vulcan, I-Chaya would see children as cubs.

I hope the all enjoy my first one-shot! :)
