Jack Marvel's dairy14/7/1735
Dear dairy
Everybody hopes for the big catches, and nearly everybody sees it, but just let it slip. My father did, he had the chance to get rich and lose all his worries. But he chose to stay with my mother and me. The only thing he should do was help a man named Henry, I can't remember his last name I think it starts with an "M". But my father said that Henry wasn't an honest man. I don't understand him Henry was such a well-dressed man, how can a man with such fine clothing not be honest.
My family isn't the wealthiest in Port Royal, in fact we doesn't even have enough money to food, my father has a awful job at the harbour as a carpenter, he only makes fifteen gold pieces a day, mother is washing clothes and I'm begging on the street – and stealing but don't tell anybody.
My greatest wish is to make my family wealthy and happy, but I think it comes with the money.
