The moon and its frightening features had seemed to be growing closer and closer to the ground. The festival was going on as usual, but no one in Termina seemed to be afraid of the impending doom. Or it might be more accurate to say they didn't think they were in danger. Anyone who knew of the danger was either accepting it or being called crazy by the rest of the inhabitants of Termina.
Walking through Termina field on the night of this festival, all alone, was a little girl of about eleven. She was being followed by a single cucco.
The girl has short, black hair and dull, blue eyes. There were dark circles under her eyes. She hadn't slept for three days now, knowing of the fate of Termina. She cared for her cucco the entire time.
The cucco went by the name of Lucky. The girl had owned this cucco for over a year, and loved it greatly.
Her family, after hearing her story of the moon, had kicked her out into the fields to fend for herself and abandoned her. She has been traveling without a human companion for quite some time.
On this night, she figured she would snuggle up in a hole somewhere with Lucky and spend her last moments care-free.
Sitting down in a nook outside the walls of Clock Town, he hugged Lucky close to her chest. Lucky had taken a liking to the girl and didn't squirm. A tear rolled down the girl's cheek and landed on Lucky's back. "We're okay here. As long as we have each other, nothing else matters, right? You're all I have left, Lucky." the girl spoke to the bird.
But Lucky had started squirming. It was unusual, and the girl was so surprised, she accidentally let go of him. He started running off in the direction they came from, and the girl chased after him.
"Lucky, what are you doing?! Hey!"
The cucco had stuck his head in a small hole, and got stuck there, unable to get it out.
"Lucky! Hey, hold still for a moment, I'll help you!" the girl said, grabbing hold of the cucco's beak. There was only a few minutes reminaning before the moon crashed down on Termina, so the girl was beginning to panic. Tears rolled down her cheeks like waterfalls. And even though she was trying to help her bird, Lucky was fighting back, trying to grab something that was deeper in the hole. The opposing forces eventually led to...
Snap.
Lucky's neck went limp, and the girl was able to pull him out of the hole. But his neck had been snapped, and the bird died instantly.
The moon was beginning to crash down, and the girl could only hold her precious companion, her only friend left, and cry. Something had come out of the hole with him. A necklace, which had probably broken and fallen of the girl's neck. But she didn't notice it sitting on the ground beside her. She only held the bird close and cried to the very end. Until the flames enveloped everything in their path.
And even then, she was weeping.
