The Truth
A scream was heard in the night. This scream pierced the stillness that is the best trait of the night. On his hands was the blood of the woman he loved dearly. The only woman he could ever fully trust. She lay there still, not moving. He could tell she was dead, not because of a pulse, but because of the closeness, the relationship they had shared. He could no longer understand. He was done with his quest. The quest that had killed the only woman he truly loved. On that night he quit looking for the truth and cried like he never had. He was the sole survivor of a conspiracy that took his family as well as her. Fox William Mulder was now alone in the world. The truth he sought so desperately destroyed him.
The day started like so many other days. Mulder was on the brink of the truth, so close he could feel it. Dana Scully walked in the door like she always did. She looked around the crowded room and saw the familiar things she saw every day. UFO pictures decked the walls and she shook her head. Scully never had a desk in the office they both shared and the door only bore his name. It didn't bother her anymore. They had been through so much together and it didn't matter to her. Mulder gave her the scoop on the latest case. She barely listened, her thoughts were far off.
They left the office in search of little green men and other things that were just as weird. Mulder believed we were all here because of aliens and other beings. He believed that a government conspiracy with a higher level of power had concealed government experiments from the American people. Scully was a scientist, a medical doctor who barely believed in God even though she wore a cross around her neck. This day seemed different to her. She felt as though something was going to happen, that she'd finally be at peace. Scully could see Mulder's mouth move, but did not hear his words. He told her to get in the car and she obeyed with out even a blink of an eye. Time seemed to slow as she took in the world that she so often missed. The world seemed brighter, more full of life than it usually was.
They stopped and asked questions. These questions didn't matter to Scully anymore. Scully just nodded and looked into Mulder's eyes. He saw she wasn't there and Mulder thought she was acting strange as though she knew something he didn't. The two agents stopped again and again interrogating so many people that led them to the edge of their discovery, they were there, at the end of the line. Scully looked up towards the starry sky and looked back down to see Mulder, his piercing eyes looking at her in concern. The assailant drew his gun and took aim. Scully saw this and jumped in front of Mulder taking the bullet that was meant to end his life not her's. The hot, searing pain rushed through her as the bullet penetrated her skin. Then all was calm as she saw Mulder crying over her slain body. She knew that it was meant to be, she was supposed to die for him so he could save everyone. The quest ended when the assailant took aim a second time and a shot rang out through the night. Mulder fell to the ground next to Scully. His eyes closed as the pain ceased and he was now with his beloved for all eternity.
