"I glance around the darkened room…"

Those words haunt me. Every night is marred by nightmare after nightmare, each worse than the last, always coming.

As a King's Ranger, that doesn't say much. After all, more often than not, Rangers have what we call 'Secret Nightmares,' when we have to take leaves, but are unable to. Crowley says that maybe I'm overreacting to my nightmares, maybe I should learn to get rid of them.

But I can't. There are reasons why, of course, but maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves here.

My name is Emily.

Yes, Duncan, that's it. Always has been, always will be.

My dad is Morgarath, and my mother…well, I never knew my mother, I only know that she was a serving maid, caught under my dad's spell.

Any who, my friends, if I have any, are sitting here talking to me, so I won't go through the trouble if introducing you to each other.

Maybe we did get ahead of ourselves back then, because I can't seem to think today. You know, I could have wrote this down, and then I wouldn't be in my King's hair, as they tend to say. But no.

Be patient, Halt, I need to collect my thoughts.

Right.

My powers? Powers?

Oh-I see now. Jeez. My powers are controlling ice and snow. That's why people in Norgate tend to ask for me in winter.

I have to get there first, Halt, mind your manners.

Well, then, let's begin.

My name is Emily. And this is the story of how I came to be where I am right now.
