MerbMaid Presents

A Chance To Chill

Summary: 22 years after the events of Sky High, Warren's 16 year old daughter explains about life, liberty and how things have changed.

A winter chill spread its icy fingers across the time-ravaged streets. The single inhabitant of the roads on this in-human day was a teenage girl. She walked slowly, with no spring in her step and no meaning towards her destination. In one fist she gripped a set of keys, the other was shoved into one pocket of her faded blue jeans. Hazel eyes glanced hastily at the watch on her phone. A muttered curse and she broke into a run.

The house at 2545 Wintercrest St. stood silent as death. The girl turned and leaped over the craggy wooden gate, the years had not been kind to this house. It was beautiful, with old Victorian features and the latest in outdoor design. A huge front lawn were picnics and parties had long since past. A walkway, the sides decorated with pure white flowers, they glittered with frozen dew. The door was wrought iron, hearts and arrows twisted around each other, locked it a cold metal dance.

The girl stood before this door, the chill in the air tinting her pale face light pink. As we continue to follow this young teen, we will learn about her.

Absolona Peace, a name she hated so much. Her mother had named her. "The queen of peace" it meant. Through this story you will know her only as Shatter. Shatter Peace, it seemed to fit her so well. The arrival of her life had only broken up her already tipsy family.

People told her she was just like her father, though she doubted it. A teenage pyrokinetic born on the coldest day of the year, born on the day her mother died. Shatter believed that her father blamed her, and held his daughter responsible for her mother's death. The doctor's had said that the baby would die, that Karen, her mother, a beautiful blond cryokinetic, would survive to see another day. During that day, Karen Peace died. The baby, Shatter herself, had survived. The doctor's had worried that her father was not in his right mind, they had offered to take the baby away, adopt her off to another family and take her out of his life for ever. That day was one of the few times in Warren's young life when he cried. His wife, his lover for only three short years, was gone, and all he had left of her was a tiny baby. Although, as time passed, he would sadly come to blame his daughter for the death of Karen, he now stood clutching the only life besides his own. Absolona, a name he hated, a name his daughter would hate, a name Karen had held so dear.

Absolona Karen Peace, 16 year old pyrokinetic, rebel, reject, outcast and daughter to Warren Peace.
