Beeeeeep. The heartless sound echoed throughout the room as a white screen covered all the monitors. 'All data deleted' flashed in front of my vision. "Data deleted…? What's going on?" I heard behind me.
"I told Watari that if something ever happened to him, he should erase all the data he can, and to set up this system to erase automatically after a certain amount of time." I replied to the voice, keeping my feelings suppressed behind my perfect mask of monotony.
"If something happened to him…? You mean… Like death…?" I heard another voice say. My mind was racing at this point, figuring out who could have done such a thing.
"Where's the shinigami?!" I demanded, coming to my conclusion. "Everyone, the shiniga…" I began to explain, lifting up my spoon to stir my delightfully sweet coffee concoction. My hand began to tremble as I felt my heart stutter.
"Huh? What's wrong, Ryuzaki?" I heard to my left, presumably from Yagami-san. I tried to answer, but I felt the chair move from beneath me and saw the floor closing in. Strong, slender arms held on to my shoulders as we crashed to the tile together. My heart was getting painfully slow as I heard Light scream my codename. How I wish I had told him my true name before my time had come. Yagami Light… I thought as I saw his face morph into a cruel smile. I knew it… I wasn't… wrong… I… But… I loved him… I knew that I had been looking for any way possible for it to not be him, but I was always right. Goodbye, my almost lover… Goodbye, my hopeless dream… So long, my luckless romance… Goodbye forever, Yagami Light… I thought as my vision left my eyes and my heart finally gave its last faltering beat.
AN: I got the idea for this fanfiction from the song "Almost Lover" by A Fine Frenzy. Thanks to my beta, Blueberry-Valentine! You are amazing, darling! Reviews make me happy!!!
