A Short Remus Lupin story (for want of a better title!)
I walk down the passageway, carrying a candle in my trembling hand. The flame flickers on the way to the Shrieking Shack. I sit down on a chair and set the candle down on a table. The table wobbles, one of its legs is nearly broken in half. I think:
'I did that' and I feel ashamed. Of course, I don't remember doing anything. I think about my friends, and feel guilty again. I've tricked them, deceived them into being friends with me. They wouldn't want to know me if they had any idea what I am. If they find out, they'll tell everyone. send me Their parents will complain. Nobody likes my kind. People wouldn't see me, Remus, they'd see through the lies I have to tell. They'd send me away from Hogwarts. I can't let them find out.
I shudder. I look down the hill, and see the village, safe, normal, with lights twinkling in the windows. I think, 'For each of those windows there could be a person. A normal human, who despises me, without even knowing my name.' The word 'Werewolf' fills people with hate and fear, without having ever met one of us.
'I won't look up at the sky.' I tell myself. 'I'll resist it.' Of course, I know that will be impossible. The wolf is stronger than me. I keep it at bay all month, and now, at the full moon it defeats me, and I transform. That it how it has been for the last five of the twelve years in my life so far, and how it will be for my whole life. I'm only twelve, and life seems to stretch on endlessly, filled with shame, misery and embarrassment. The wolf will kill if it gets the chance.
I look up and see the moon, full, round and shining. It's beautiful, but it fills me with terror and repulsion, as I feel the hairs beginning to grow all over my body, as it twists and bends into my other form. My eyes are closed now. I don't want to look down and see what I am now.
"I hate yooooooouuuuuuuu!" I cry, and my shout turns into a howl. I don't register this fact at the time, I don't think any more. I just move, tear, bite, rip and destroy everything around me. I have surrendered myself to the wolf, as I knew I would.
