Missing Scene.
The sound of Will yelling at Helen made Joan wake up from her sleep. It scared her as she self-consciously grabbed a teddy bear and held it tightly. She wished she could have Kevin or Luke to talk to, but Luke was sleeping over at Friedmans and Kevin was with Rebecca.
Throughout Helen and Will's relationship, fights were seldom-hardly ever.
Joan got up at stood on the stairs, hiding a bit. "Why did I even bother to come back here tonight?" Will yelled. "This family is suffocating me!" The door slammed shut. Joan gaped, her mouth wide open, her feet frozen to the ground. That hurt. That really really hurt. Who was this man? It wasn't her father.
Joan slowly walked over to her mom. Helen looked at Joan. "You didn't hear that did you?" she asked quietly.
Joan nodded. The pain in Helen's eyes was so severe, and Helen looked so confused and lost. Tears started to run down Joan's face as she managed to get out, "He didn't mean that did he?" "No sweetie. No. Of course not." Joan could hear the strain in her mom's voice. "Mom." Joan's voice sounded a bit pushy, a bit anxious. "I was actually scared of him for a second Joan- scared of my own husband."
Helen broke down as Joan hugged her again.
After a few minutes she wiped some tears away from her fave and blew her nose. "I'm fine, Joan, I'm okay. It'll be okay tomorrow." "Do you want to sleep in my room tonight?" Joan asked, worried. Helen smiled, touched by the thought. "No thanks, sweetie. 'Night. Love you." "Love you too, Mom," Joan replied, and went upstairs to see what tomorrow brang.
