Flowers
by Thyme in Her Eyes – ariadne@btopenworld.com
Author's Note: Happy Valentines Day to all you romantics out there! The whole feel of today kinda inspired me into writing this short drabble (500 words or less), with a bit of a romantic Cloud/Aeris vibe. I don't usually write drabbles (Lirillith, I blame you) but today is special, so I just couldn't resist writing a little something – maybe I'll write a longer C/A later on this week, too! So, this is sort-of my Valentines gift to the fandom. I hope you guys enjoy it!

FLOWERS

Her hands were knit tightly together as she prayed. She prayed for the future, prayed for life, prayed for a thousand tomorrows. She prayed that she could protect her friends, her loved ones.
And she believed she could, too. She believed so fiercely that everything would be alright.
She felt herself descend from a highly spiritual state, felt herself drawn back into reality, drifting away from her prayers as the spell was cast. Faintly, she heard the entire planet singing for Holy. Soon, the earth would shake and Holy's light would soar. It was over. She opened her eyes, and saw Cloud standing in front of her, concern written intricately over his face. She smiled and thought for a second about what the future had in store for the two of them. A lot of good things, she hoped.
I want to meet...you.
When the Masamune pierced through her body, she jolted violently with the force of the blade slamming through her. She fleetingly thought, Who's going to care for the flowers? And then she fell dead to the floor.

After the adventure, Cloud would return to the church where he had met her as often as he could. Just to be there, to remember her in the place where he felt the most relaxed, the most at home. He would always water the flowers, making sure they were healthy and flourishing. Thinking of Aeris, he cared for her flowers. He just believed somehow that that's what she would've wanted.
