An Earring:
He had given her a diamond earring for Christmas close to a decade ago. Over the years, her collection grew to encompass other more ornate pieces, but this was the most precious of them all. This simple diamond meant so much more beyond its looks.
The release from Azkaban left him near penniless. Somehow he had whinged with the shopkeeper to hold the other until he could pay for the remaining earring. But he never purchased it. Soon after, he had been caught in the crossfire of a death eater rampage. She never received the other half of the promise.
All he had was this one earring. His mother had given it to him in Azkaban and she told him to give it to his one true love. And he'd given it to her. After that, he'd just left, and there was no more. Some days, she wondered where he could be, and other days, she was just content to know that he was away from the place he would be discriminated against.
He'd promised to give her the other one when he got out of Azkaban; it had been looking good for him at that time. He was going to be released a week later. Then, several rampant death eaters had broken out of Azkaban, and in the Aurors' haste, the Killing Curse had gone awry, hitting him. And like that, he was gone. She never received the other half of the pair.
