Deryn paced in front of the classroom, her eyes wide and sparkling. "Ever wonder why the Clanker planes work? Do you know how in the world they stay up in the air for so long, while still not expending a horrid amount of energy?" A student in the front raised his hand. "Yes, Winston?" "Lift." He answered confidently. "And do you know the principles of lift?" Deryn prodded. "No." He answered. "Moving air or fluid creates areas of what type of pressure, class?" "Low!" her class responded energetically. "Correct." Deryn said proudly, her students were so good. She was about to explain the principle further when she heard a loud knock at the door. "Come in." In came Alek, drenched from the rain. "Deryn, I'm so sorry, I never should have left you! I think maybe…I think I love you." "What took you so long to get here, you bum-rag!" Deryn answered, a smile playing across her lips. She crossed the room and embraced Alek who held her as though he would never let her go. "Marry me?" "Yes!".
