Twists of Fate

"Caitie," Caitie's history teacher, Mr. Mitchell, called to her as she was about to leave for her next class, "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

She headed back across the classroom to his desk not sure what he wanted to talk to her about. He wasn't afraid of her or hated her like the rest of her teachers. He was cool, he made history fun.

"Are you any good at acting?" He asked from where he sat on the side of the desk opposite her.

"What do you mean?" Caitie asked confused and surprised at the same time. She knew that he was in charge of drama, but what would he want with her.

"Do you think you would be able to play someone injured or even dead?" He asked trying to clear things up for his pupil.

"Why?" Caitie asked now that her surprise and confusion had come to the brink of the border of shock, but not quite.

"Well, I was wondering if you would like participate in this year's drunk driving assembly," Mr. Mitchell told her referring to the mock crash the school did once every two years.

"Don't you usually ask drama kids to do it? I mean it should look real," Caitie pointed out.

"I did ask the kids who are usually in drama and only seven were interested and their parents let them. I need eight," he paused and then justified her second statement, "That's why I wanted to know if you could act,"

"I think I could do it," Caitie said, hoping she could.

"Would your parents consent?" He asked her. That had been a problem with the others.

"Yeah, my dad's a cop," Caitie told him in reply, that was probably one of the few things her parents would consent to.

"Well, then we're having tomorrow at lunch to go over it," Mitchell told as he wrote her a late pass.

"I'll be there," Caitie said accepting the late pass and heading out the door not knowing that making that decision would put her on a collision course with destiny.

Author's Notes: Like the ending? Like the story? Like Star Wars? What about Star Trek? Want me to stop so you can you review? Which I know you will do, right? Right? Am I right?
