She shouted at the top of her lungs hoping and wishing someone would hear her desperate plea for aid. "Help! Please" she screamed feeling her will to survive slowly dissolve. It was hopeless she thought gulping as she stared at the long fall ahead. No one was going to save her. She was going to die here and then and there was nothing she could do except hope for a quick and painless death. Why did she have to climb on top and then look down? How could she be so stupid?

She tried pulling herself up but she couldn't. She was too weak she thought bitterly as the tears streamed down her face. She could feel her fingers slipping slowly one by one but this time she didn't have the strength or the motive to hold on tighter.

What was the point in delaying the inevitable? Her heart beat drowned everything else the noises the sounds even her thoughts. In that one time changing moment all she could hear was the blood pounding in her ears. She could feel the adrenaline slowly wearing off leaving her feeling lethargic.

She sucked in a huge gulp of air refusing to give up so soon and praying for a miracle that would never come "Somebody help me!" She bellowed thrashing wildly in an attempt to make some noise.

She paused as she heard rapid footsteps approach. Thinking this was her chance her heart filled with the hope she needed and she managed to kick herself up enough to stop a figure hunched over. "Over here" She waved frantically her heart leaping in her chest as the figure hurried over.

"Take my hand" the figure called out stretching as far as he could without falling. She swallowed past the lump in her throat and stared at the hand her eyes travelling down.

She took a deep breath and released a hand and grabbed a hold of his. "Good now hold on with your other hand" the figure which she now recognized as a young man encouraged. She hesitated wondering if perhaps he'd let her plummet to her death.

But then trusting his reassuring brown eyes she let go and grasped his arm with both her hands. She screamed as she saw the metal that hung hurtle down. That could've been me she thought dazed as she felt herself sway. "No come on stay with me" The voice urged as he grunted with the effort of pulling her up.

"You need to pull yourself up…..I can't do this alone" he pleaded making her head clear for just a minute. Using every fiber of her being she pulled herself up and ended up landing beside him. "Thank you" She whispered gazing at him with a mix of adoration and gratitude.

"You're welcome" He said giving her a small smile as he noticed her shiver violently. He shrugged off his jacket and placed it around her noticing how she scooted closer to him. "Are you an angel?" She asked sleepily. He wasn't sure if she was serious or just delirious after her near death experience. He draped an arm over her shoulder and pulled her closer wanting no needing to shield her from the world "I'm just someone who'll always look out for you" He said simply as if that explained everything.

He sighed as he felt her head drop on his shoulder as she fell into an exhausted sleep.
