I remember the first time I saw the lady in white. I was sixteen, and my father had a newspaper
clipping a cousin from Earth had sent to him. Father had frowned at the words and glared, black eyes
narrowed to slits, at the frozen image on the page. He threw it down in disgust, leaving it open to
the curious eyes of my brother and me.

I could not understand what made Father glare so at the picture. The woman smiling serenly was gorgeous,
an angel. Her blue eyes sparkled like the gems for which my brother was named, and her hair looked soft
and pretty, like pure sunshine. Her pale skin was set against a silvery-white bodice -- moonlight in silk.

"This is her?" My brother, then twelve, asked. "How is that possible? She looks too nice to have sent
us away."

I agreed with my brother on that count, and nodded. I read the caption below the picture of the goddess
aloud. "Neo-Queen Selenity, ruler of Crystal Tokyo and the Neo Moon Kingdom, announced today the birth
of her daughter."

I frowned. My goddess, a mother?

"I bet its a cute baby," my brother remarked.

It didn't matter how cute the brat was. But, he was too young to really understand. If she had a baby,
and announced it proudly in a newspaper, it meant she was married to the baby's father. And to have that
baby, she'd made love with that man. Jealousy, unfounded and sharp, pierced my heart at the thought of
another man touching my goddess so intimately. As soon as I had seen her picture, I had thought of her
as mine. She was pure, bright, alive, and everything Nemesian girls were not. I wanted her, and only her.
I didn't care that she was at least Father's age, and that we of the Black Moon had been banished by her
will. If I could make the white goddess love me, wouldn't that bring us home?

But honestly, I didn't care at that moment about the family's concerns. All my thoughts were centered on her,
on the angel who graced the newspaper clipping. That was the first item I saved containing her likeness.

Now, I can gaze upon her forever, if my plan works out correctly. We are poised to attack her haven
of Crystal Tokyo, to flush her out of her palace sanctuary. Her warriors and husband will fall, but she
and the child I will spare. I will not kill an innocent girl. That gesture will win me some of her
affection, at least. And with the new power, the magical eye gifted to me by the Wiseman, I will be able to
make her feel for me, to desire me the way I do her. Then, after an acceptable period of mourning, we will
wed, and rule over the Earth, Moon, and Nemesis together, as King Diamond and Queen Selenity. We will unite
the lines of the white and black moon forever.

"Diamond-sama, Brother, it is time."

I turn, smiling slightly. My brother, now the master tactician awaits my order.

"Then let us begin, Sapphire. I must not keep my goddess waiting."
