This is all pure speculation on my part.

Even though she was only four when they died, Jun can't forget her parents.

Her father was one of the kindest people you would ever meet. She remembers how he would sit with her during thunderstorms and wait for her to fall asleep, how he was nearly impossible to make angry, the twinkle in his eyes. His corny jokes.

She remembers her mother's warm smile, her gentle warning to play nice with the other children at morning play group. On snowy days they would bake cookies and play Go Fish. Mother would tell her stories about the exciting life she used to have, but there was never any bitterness over the fact that she'd settled down.

When Daddy would come home, he would kiss them both and ask how are my girls? They were so happy together, just the three of them. Mother and Daddy always said there could be four or even five someday, and Jun was never sure how she felt about that.

The car accident changed everything. She remembers the phone call, the babysitter's shriek, people crying and wearing black a few days later.

Jun awakens from her reverie and glances at the small photograph. A man with a twinkle in his eye, a woman with her hair in a messy braid.

The Science Ninja Team is her family now and she wouldn't trade them for anything, but it doesn't make it hurt any less that her parents are gone.
