Her faithful protector.
Through all her early years, it was always the same one.
Not a man, nor woman.
He was a dragon, big and strong.
He protected her.
He promised he'd always protect her.
He swore to protect her 'til the day he died.
He did.
"What do you mean, 'I need to be saved'? Where are you taking me? What are you doing to him?! I don't need to be saved! I need to stay here!" she cried, kicking and screaming as she was brought from the ruins of the large structure she once called home.
Taken far away from her protector, as they fought to keep him away from her.
She watched, tears staining her face, as the fires roared and raged, mimicking the deathly struggle between the great dragon and the knights.
She watched, as a spear pierced a chink in her knight's armor.
Watched as he breathed his last.
The life in the court was stifling.
Always teaching the young lady how to sit, how to act, how to brush her blue locks prettily, how to watch men fight.
How to be okay with being forced to marry.
Never.
The gladiatorial battles were fast approaching.
The 'princess' had to take the winner as her knight.
As her prince.
She would be forced to marry a man she had never met.
She had absolutely no control over it.
That's what her 'mother' told her.
And Mother knows best.
That's what her 'father' told her.
There was only one joy to being a princess.
Her lady in waiting, Lucy.
Oh, how she envied Lucy.
No restrictions whatsoever.
She could do whatever she wanted, Lucy could.
If only...
