The air was humid, stifling even, yet the castle was sleeping soundlessly. Silence was swirling in every room, Gerda was counting down the minutes before it would shatter like a mirror. It would happen, it always did. Nothing she could say or do would stop it.
Ever since THAT day, the nightmares would come. At first it was expected, after all, they had both nearly died! But it never got better, she hoped it was just a phase that they would pass, they would realize it hadn't happened, they were both okay and it would remain that way.
"Gerda?" Kai's voice jolted her fro her thought. "Would you like another cup of tea?"
She smiled fondly at him. After the death of the King and Queen, It had fallen upon their shoulders to make sure their daughters were cared for. A task they had both accepted readily. A sigh escaped her.
"No thank you," glancing at him she frowned. "What are you doing up at this time?"
"I could ask you the same thing but I already know the answer," Kai chuckled without humor. "What are we going to do with them? Its been 2 months already, and I know you said time heals, but..." he trailed off, looking into her eyes, which were filled with worry which he was sure she saw in his eyes. "I don't know what to do anymore, I don't know how to help them."
Gerda stood from her chair slowly, walking over to him, smiling sadly the entire time. Reaching out she took his hand, squeezing gently.
"I've been writing to my friend, over in Wykeham, she said there's a doctor that can help. I've already written to him and he said they can go when they're ready, but it must be their decision, other wise their minds will be against it." Gerda sighed. it would be a difficult task to get them to agree.
"Hopefully, and I know this sounds horrible, but with their lack of sleep, they will be more willing to go along," Kai murmured while pinching the bridge of his nose. "Have you mentioned it to either of them?"
"You know how her majesty is, she refused any sort of help, but I'm hoping that the princess can bring her around. I've mentioned it to the princess, she seemed... like she wanted help." Gerda replied just as quietly.
"Well if that's the case, her majesty will bound to come round! Her sister has her wrapped around her littl-" the rest of Kai's excited reply was drowned out with a blood curdling scream.
Closing her eyes, Gerda breathed in deeply, and letting it out with a sigh, catching Kai's gaze with her own somber expression. "Its started."
