Tag-Along Queen

[Need-to-know Info: Selphie's p.o.v, I know she's out of character already, and Kairi bashing]

:::

She thought she was queen. She was queen.

And I hated her for it.

Oh, yes, I was Selphie, her majesty's 'best friend'.

Ha. The only reason she kept me around was to give her an edge of softness. It was all a pity trick. Her whole personality was fake. I was her tag-along.

Kairi got everything she wanted. The best was only right for her. That Thalassa shell necklace she wore and always bragged about? I made it. I also made another necklace of sea glass but her highness thought it was ugly and smashed it right before my eyes.

I never could figure out why she was so much more popular than me, why everyone loved her. Until that day.

I was on the beach, practicing my knumchucks with Riku, when I heard a loud thunk. It definitely wasn't my knumchucks and Riku was sure it wasn't his sword so I went to the secret place and listened.

There it was again!

I went it slowly and there she was, rolling around on the bare, cold ground with some random guy from our school. This was it. After years of wondering.

Riku pulled me out quickly. I'd never forget that image. We both stayed silent, walking away from the cave and continued our training. I don't think we've ever mentioned it again.

I never told Kairi what I saw but I changed that day. Something inside of me suddenly grew up very fast and I felt like a different person.

She's still perfect, and I'm still the same un-popular, un-loved Selphie. But you know what I think? If that's what you have to do to be popular, I figure I'm just fine with being me.
