Summary: Set some time in the future where Elijah comes to visit Caroline.

The door swung open revealing Elijah in the doorway. Caroline smiled it had been...17 years since she had last seen her brother-in-law she opened the door fully and said.

"Come in Elijah." there wasn't any humans in the house, just her and Klaus, so even if she hadn't invited him in he would have been able to come in anyway. He came in every bit the gentleman he had always been. She motioned him to sit down on one of their black stuffed leather couches and sat down herself on an identical one that sat across from the one she had told him to sit on.

"What are you doing here?" she asked with a wide smile.

"I thought that I would check on my brother and you." he said with a smile and a polite nod in her direction.

"We're doing fine." Caroline said beaming, they were going through a particularly nice patch on the moment. It wasn't all peaches and cream though, she remembered when they had to remodel and fix a good section of their house when they had decided to handle their problems in a physical fight. And there were the verbal sparing that more then once they had to compel the neighbors to forget about. There was also that one time they had to fix their bedroom due to much vigorousness...well she quickly quieted those thought seeing at she was talking to his brother.

"That is wonderful." Elijah said with a smile and Caroline smiled back, but this time her smile showed a little of her confusion. It wasn't like Elijah to show up just to check up on them he and his brother talked by phone every couple of weeks and Caroline talked to him three or four times a year.

"I suppose you are aware that I'm here for another reason." Caroline nodded her head and Elijah nodded his well in return.

"I wanted to thank you." Caroline frowned confused.

"For what?" she couldn't think of anything she could have done that elicited a thank you from Elijah. Elijah smiled at her brightly.

"I have been trying desperately for decades to get Klaus redemption and happiness and no matter what I tried it has never worked. However, you have him given both and you have only been who you always were you." Caroline smiled again this time though Elijah went a little blurry as tears started to flow into her eyes, because she was pretty sure that this was the highest level of praise for Elijah.

"It was nothing." she said slightly choked up.

"It is everything." Elijah said with a grin and Caroline beamed back.
