Bella was sure that this time, the tenth time to be exact, she was going to summon Xornath, an ancient powerful demon who was, if the Fates were correct, her soulmate.

As she performed the ritual, which she had to complete a quest for, she thought about the questions she would ask. Questions about why he had abandoned her. Questions about him. Everything.

The fire suddenly turned vibrant green, like the Northern Lights, and she had to scoot back until her back was to the trunk of a Sequoia tree.

The entire forest was eerily quiet. This was something she was used to, ever since she started exploring the woods when she was seven years old, the forest seemed wary of her, or maybe the demon who has always been her shadow.

The magic within her was vibrating, eager to be joined with it's other half.

As suddenly as the fire had turned green, it returned to it's normal color.

She waited and waited for a huge 10 feet tall demon with wings to appear.

She waited for hours, or maybe it was just minutes. Time was relative after all, and unlike the mere mortals she was surrounded by, she knew that it was all dictated by the Gods and not an animate object with two hands.

Before she could get lost in her thoughts, she noticed a boy her age, stumbling towards her from the opposite side of the fire.

"Bella?" the boy coughed out in a hoarse voice.

"Edward, is that you?"

"What are you doing here? It's 2 am. Go back home, Bella. The woods are dangerous. You know better than this." His voice was still hoarse as if he had inhaled smoke.

"The creatures in this forest won't hurt me, Edward." She stood up and moved to collect everything in front of her.

Her heart was filled with sadness as she had failed to summon Xornath, again. Maybe, he didn't want to meet her. Maybe, it was time she stopped harassing the demon.

A laugh burst out from her at the thought of her, a timid 5 feet girl, harassing an ancient demon. The laughter ended in a bout of tears. Now, she was a sobbing mess in front of her neighbor.

"Bella?"

"Just give me a moment, I'll be okay." She gasped out.

Edward was beside her in a moment, enveloping her in his arms.

"Hey now. It's all going to be okay." He murmured.

"B-but, I can't do this again. He never shows up. I'm tired, Edward. Why is he abandoning me?"

"Shhh. Trust your instincts, love. Instincts never lie." As she calmed down, he helped her collect all the vials and walked her home.

It wasn't until she was nearly asleep that the hypothetical bulb over her head lit up.

Of course, of course.
