Redux: I'm redoing this story. I'm leaving in the same dialogue, but I'm fixing the details. Please help me, you guys. You know I get so easily distracted and I'm a follower and a procrastinator, so I need someone to SUGGEST I do something. So, if you're a bossy person, Dear Reader, congrats! I need direction.
Chapter one- Ryuga.
Hikaru made her way to Ryo's office. He was assigning her to a new partner; her last one, Missy, had be hospitalized. She politely knocked on the door.
When she heard, "Come in," she entered the room, and was instantly on guard. Three feet away from her, a boy sat, back facing her. No. Not him. Anyone but him, she thought desperately. There had to be a way out of this.
She was still intense as Ryu gestured her closer. He sat behind a large wooden desk. The boy sat on the other side, his back still to her. Good, that just means he hadn't noticed her yet. That would give her ample time to get...
"Hikaru, this is your new partner."
Craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!
The boy finally turned towards her. His large topaz eyes took her whole body in. She suddenly felt very insecure under his gaze. He looked away, brushing an uneasy hand through his hair. She was still unsettled by his gaze. Yeah, he remembered her.
The last time they had met, they had both been abducted by a genius psychopath named, Aleksei. Her friend, Madoka's ex boyfriend. He may have helped her escape then, but that didn't change what he did in the past.
She suddenly thought of her blader spirit. The one he had blasted into oblivion, then dragged through her tears.
"Director, what is the logic behind your decision?!" She couldn't keep the anger away from her voice. And it showed clearly on her face.
Ryo tried to answer, but Ryuga got there faster. "Aw, come on, Blue, I don't bite." He showed brilliant white teeth to her. She resisted the urge to shudder.
She gave him a glare, narrowing her dangerously. Ryo knew something was going down one way or another. She snapped, "Your bark is worse than your bite. And yet, neither are that frightening."
Ryo grinned at them and stood up. He patted both of them on the shoulder. "See? You're bonding already!" They both shot him. He cleared his throat and left, saying, "I'll leave you to it, then."
She hoped that Ryuga didn't notice that she actually was afraid to be alone with him. Not that he exactly wanted to be alone with her either. This was an awkward moment for both of them.
Ryuga cleared his throat carefully to give him time to come up with something to say. He wasn't overly fond if what came out instead. "You know, you could at least pretend that you liked me," He point out.
Hikaru crossed her arms and scowled. "No. I really couldn't. I'm a agent, not an actress. But that's just sugar-coating it so you won't feel so guilty."
"Ouch. Are you sure we can't be at least a little friendly?"
She offered him a fake smile. "Never." And that smile melted off her face.
He shook his head, and surprised her by looking slightly upset. "Ah, that's too bad. I can make a good friend, but I guess we'll just have to settle for allies."
"I don't want anything from you. You got that? It's just one mission. One mission before I can be rid of you and you of me. That's what you want, isn't it?"
This was getting worse the more he tried calming her. He just seemed to be winding her back up. He sighed deeply. "Okay. I was just trying to help."
"Well, maybe you should stop trying," she spoke coldly. "People tend to get hurt the more you try."
He was now looking down and rubbing the back of his neck. This was not going according to plan. He had came here to reconcile with her. He'd never really meant to hurt her. Well, he had, but he was sorry now.
He was harshly jerked back into reality by a rough prod to the chest. She was super close to him at the moment. He became unbelievably aware of this fact. "Just stay the heck away from me, or I'll kick your butt," she warned him.
His teeth barred like the dragon he was inside. "What's your problem?" He growled. His eyes were set ablaze with a unfaltering determination to make her see his point. Hikaru wasn't going to waste kindness on him where he showed her none. "You," she retorted. "You're my problem. And now Ryo's dumping me with you because he doesn't know what do with you."
He threw his hands into the air. "How is that my fault? And I said I was sorry, didn't I? So why are you still so angry?"
She couldn't believe that he'd just said that. Here was the perfect example of a person who does understand that "sorry" can't fix everything. "Those were just words! I listen to people's actions, and your's spoke louder than words."
He frowned and crossed his arms over his chest. "Oh, yeah? What did mine tell you?"
"That you're an arrogant butt that only thinks about himself! Someone who does't mind crushing someone else's hopes! You can't even be man enough to admit what you did was wrong! You just hide behind layers. You're no good! And you're probably only doing this for community service or something. You're not a good guy, and you never will be!"
Ryuga was glaring thoroughly at her now. "Let's get this over with."
He turned and stalked off, leaving Hikaru to ponder the past few with an arrogant sigh, she turned and followed him.
The fight scene was actually really fun to write. Not that I don't like writing at all. I do. But I liked going back and forth with myself, writing this dialogue. (Yeah, it's weird. I bounce ideas off of myself. And what's weirder; I'll fight with myself aloud while writing. But I want you to keep in mind that I also have no plot line, that I'm just making it up as I go along. I do that with all my stories. It's what makes it exciting. Even for me.)
