Charity Point of View
"Keep it a secret" I say to my dads boss as I pour myself a drink.
"I will, honestly, I think they're having a meeting today to talk over the investigation, you can make your grand appearance then" He chuckles.
"Thanks Frank, can't wait to surprise dad, he doesn't suspect anything does he?" I ask as I put the hotel coffee cup on the side.
"Nope, as far as he's concerned, there is a possibility of him interviewing a new detective to join the squad, doesn't know his girl is joining the squad, see you when you get here Charity" he says.
"See you soon, Frank" I say and go in my suitcase and pick out a green blouse with birds and a pencil skirt and a pair of my hells and put them on and then I curl my hair and do my make up and see I'm at least 15 minutes spare before I need to be at the station and I get my bag and suitcase and sigh out the hotel and put them in my car and I drive to the station and near the back of the station and see Dad and I duck slightly as he walks through the station and then I take the opposite direction and Frank was waiting.
"That was super smart" He chuckles and we walk through and I put my bag down in his office.
"I hope he doesn't have a heart attack, he thinks I'm doing a 8 month placement in Texas in a homicide squad" I say.
"Oh don't worry, he'll be thrilled, he goes on about you all of the time, about how much he misses you and how he thinks you should come back" Frank laughs and we get outside the incident room and we hear Jason's voice.
"We don't know for sure that she was involved in this" He says.
"Where are we with her criminal background?" Dad asks frustrated.
"I got occupied by something" a woman says.
"Christ almighty, Wells. We need to get more evidence!" I hear Dad snap.
"How do we know this wasn't a random attack" Another Guy asks.
"Make your move now" Frank says and I walk in.
"If it was a random attack, we could be looking at a angry, violent person but something about this tells me we're not looking at a random attack" I say and Dad looks over and his mouth is open.
"What's to say this attack is targeted though?" The young, olive skinned detective asks me, challenging my point.
"Well, from the research I have done, the victim didn't have the best relationship with people and she was involved in a gang of car thieves, maybe this is something of her actions that she's done wrong that has resulted in her death" I say.
"Doesn't mean anything, she could have tried to be a informant for the police, she could have been trying to get out of the life of crime" The Guy challenges and I look.
"Ok, but is there any record?" I ask and he looks taken back.
"Well no, but she could have been on her way to us to volunteer information before she was killed" Another detective, a couple years older than me challenges.
"Possible but that would make it a targeted attack wouldn't it?" I ask.
"Unless this killer decided he was going to delve into a random attack and she was the person he saw" A older detective says.
"Again, possible but I don't think so somehow" I say and walk over to the board and look but the guy clears his throat and I turn around.
"I'm sorry, you can't just walk in here and make out you know everything, who are you?" A guy, about Dads age but maybe older asks.
"I am sorry, how rude of me! You must be Detective Graham Cole, I am Detective Charity Kendall" I say putting my hand out.
"Your?" He asks.
"Yep, That Guy There is my Dad, I'm his daughter" I say, pointing over to my speechless dad and he shakes my hand.
"I am Detective Graham Cole" he smiles and I shake his hand.
"It's wonderful to meet the person your dad is always on about, I'm Ben Rhodes" The younger guy who was challenging me earlier says and shakes my hand.
"Likewise" I say.
"Well, well, well, it's been a while Charity" Jason shaw smirks.
"Hasn't it just? How are you?" I ask.
"I'm very good, been wondering how you were doing. Last I heard you were working on a gang case, did you succeed in your investigation" He asks.
"6 people are behind bars and the operation is no longer active" I say.
"I always knew you'd make one hell of a detective, I told you didn't I?" He asks.
"It must be passed through the genes" I say.
"Well your dad is a very good detective" He nods.
"Must be like father like daughter" I smirk and look to my shocked and speechless dad.
"Indeed, it's good to see you" He smiles and I walk over and I give him a hug.
"You too, it's good to be a part of the team" I say whispering the last part and I pull away and turn to my dad.
"Charity" he smiles.
"Hi Dad, do we have time for a quick coffee or not?" I ask him and he walks over and wraps me in a gentle but a very firm hug.
"I've missed you so much" He whispers.
"I've missed you too, surprise" I whisper and he smiles and me, him and Jason go for a drink after Dad asks the others to look into the alibis provided.
"You made one hell of an entrance, Charity" jason laughs as he pours us all a drink.
"I'm very glad, I want to leave my mark" I smirk back and he shakes his head laughing.
"Your one memorable young lady without that entrance" He laughs.
"I hope so" I laugh and smile to my dad
"What are you doing here? What about the homicide squad?" Dad asks.
"I was offered it but I didn't go for it, Frank offered me a job here, I hope you don't mind me accepting it" I say.
"Are you kidding? I'm thrilled, I can't believe I get to work with my daughter" He smiles and I sit down and take my drink from Jason.
"I didn't want to tell you over the phone though, I wanted to give you the surprise of your life" I smile and Dad chuckles.
"You definitely did that, sweetheart. I'm so glad you're here" He says and I reach my hand across to his and he kisses my forehead.
"I was struggling being away, after everything that's happened and I was getting lonely" I say.
"What about Daniel? Wasn't he keeping you company or is he still obsessed with business" Jason asks and I look.
"Um, me and Daniel are no longer an item" I say and Dad looks shocked.
"Why?! … what happened sweetheart?" Dad asks.
"He'd gotten another woman pregnant and lied to me about it and then he blamed me" I say.
"That son of a bitch" Dad says angrily and I look at him.
"Dad, relax, it's fine, I'm ok" I say but he squeezes my hand.
"If I ever got my hands on him, he'd regret hurting my daughter" Dad growls.
"Dad, it's ok, I'm fine, and anyway like I said, I was struggling without you, I know that you got empty nest syndrome and I was starting to get that too" I smile and he smiles.
"Well, I hope you can prove yourself to be a good addition to my team young lady" Dad says.
"Of course, it will be good to have someone keeping you in check Dad" I smirk as he laughs.
"Oh I don't need to have someone keeping me in check" he laughs and we finish our cups of coffee.
"Can I come back home dad?" I ask him.
"Yes of course, we can have a nice meal tonight, you can cook" he laughs.
"I'll be happy to cook" I say and he wraps me into a hug and I rest against him holding on him, I always feel safe in my dads arms.
"Right.lets get to work, Young Kendall" Jason says and I stand up, ready for my first day working with my dad.
