Prologue

What happened before? The story followed one amazing pirate, a girl who had a great time sailing the seas with her small crew. She was called "Red Snow" Yuki, a title given to her by Vice-Admiral Garp when she began her journey to become a pirate. Many things happened to this fierce girl, yet nothing made her more happy than talking with her sworn brothers.

Yes, this story is about a girl who grew up with Portgas D. Ace, Sabo, and Monkey D. Luffy. The circumstances surrounding her childhood in Fuusha Village were unknown to her and the others, but she and Luffy were friends long before Luffy left the village and met Ace and Sabo in the mountains. Garp served as a father and a grandfather to her when she had no one to call family, and that was the beginning of the amazing adventure of her life.

Yuki was dead. In her last moments, unknown to everyone, she had thought of how sad her brothers would be that she passed away. Somewhere, deep inside her mind, she had never doubted that she would die for one of them. She just didn't expect it to be so soon. Nineteen years old was a young age to die.

A life for a life. Luffy would have died if she and Ace hadn't thought to act quickly and try to prevent Akainu from reaching him. Ace would have died if she had been only a bit slower to react or hadn't been there to stop him. Either way, one of the three of them would die.

Ace was important to her. Luffy was important to her. Yuki was sure the others felt the same way, but she knew they couldn't die. Ace and Luffy both had more people depending on them than she had ever had, and they wouldn't let those people down.

So, she chose to die.

Yuki flung herself in front of Akainu's fist, sinking her sword into the ground before her to add an extra layer of defense. She strengthened it with her Haki, unwilling to let her little brother be hurt by the Admiral's lava. He couldn't die when he had so much to live for.

When Akainu was pushed back by Marco and Vista, she collapsed onto her sword. Luffy pulled her closer, holding her up. Mizuki, Yuki's first mate, and Ace hurried over to where they knelt, anxious and scared. Ace had to lean on Mizuki and Luffy because of the attacks Akainu had hit him with previously.

She couldn't quite make out all of what they were saying, but the message was clear enough. "Don't die!" they told her. She smiled weakly at them, telling them to give up on her. She had to tell them to live on. They had to listen.

She knew by the empty feeling in her midsection that there was a gaping hole there. She wanted to tell Ace, suddenly, that he meant more to her than she had thought. She wanted to tell Luffy that he had to continue to pursue his dreams.

"Lu...ffy... I love... your... dream..."

They were almost shouting now, yelling at her to stay alive.

"Ace... look after... Luffy. I... really do... lo...," she trailed off, her last breath leaving her. All of her thoughts ceased. The light in her eyes was gone. Yuki had died, passed away in Luffy's arms as they tried to save her. This was the end for her, her final words quieted before leaving her lips. They could only guess at what she was going to say.

Yuki was gone.

The war to save Portgas D. Ace ended shortly after, later to be known as the War of the Great for its involvement of many famous and powerful pirates. Ace, Luffy, and the others had managed to escape, though Luffy received a large scar courtesy of Admiral Akainu.

Whitebeard passed away along with Yuki and many other pirates. When "Red Hair" Shanks put a stop to the war and collected the bodies of the fallen, he and the Whitebeard crew held a funeral to honor the two great pirates and all of the other deceased. Shanks' gift of the katana he had given Yuki was returned to him, but he decided to leave it resting with its master on her grave.

It was a sad end to the war for many pirates around the world.

Sequel to my other fan fiction, "A Life for a Life".
