"How do you tell someone that you're in love with them?"
Marlene lowered the parchment she was looking over, her brow arched. James was laying sideways in his favorite armchair, which he'd moved between the fireplace and her own armchair. His shoes had been taken off and set on the floor and his tie loosened. Even for someone that was in his best friend's flat, he was extremely relaxed.
"And I mean really in love with them, not the 'you're my friend and I care for you a lot, maybe so much that it feels like you're part of my family' sort." He looked at her upside down.
"If there's something that you need to tell me… I already know that you're actually undeniably in love with me. So you don't have to worry about telling me." She smiled and then set her parchment down before pulled her feet onto her chair with her. If this was the sort of conversation she thought it was going to be, she'd want to be comfortable. "Dumbledore wants me to get that back to him tonight but it can wait for a bit."
He sat up normally then and looked over at the fire. "I'll just add to this, first?"
She didn't respond until he was back in his seat, mirroring her position and facing her. "I thought you and Lily had already told each other how you feel."
"Well, we did. I mean, we sort of did… But that was last year and things change, Marls! You know that. We've talked about things. The future, you know? Kids, marriage, careers. Everything. Nothing."
"That sounds to me like you've already told her, then." She rested her chin on her knee. "As long as you mean it, anyway."
"It just doesn't feel like it's enough. Do you think this works?"
The ring was beautiful, everything a girl would want. Marlene flew out of her chair and into his, her arms going around him in a tight hug. "I can't believe you had to ask me that."
"Now we've just got to get Sirius to get one for you."
a/n; I don't even know what's going on with this... Drabbles aren't really my thing, and I don't even ship Lily and James.
