People always seemed to expect that she was the cool, calm, and collected one when they first heard about them. That always made her laugh. It doesn't make sense! You don't want someone passive controlling Lightning. If they did the spark would never form, much less the thunder! Lightning's lazy, it needs a kick in the pants to get going. So, as someone who has to get things started, she's kinda super energetic. Her brother is the calm one, because the trick to Fire is getting it to stop burning everything. And him, he's both. He kinda has to be, though, doesn't he? To resonate with the two of them? That's probably why she loves him.

She knows that she probably shouldn't She thinks, 'how clichéd is that?' "The weapon falls in love with the meister" is about as played out an idea as the whole "Star-crossed lovers" thing. She shouldn't love anyone as part of her shaman duties. The old men used to tell them that attachment to man is detachment from Earth, so maybe loving him will hurt her calling. Plus the fact that he's known her since she was just out of diapers and pretty much raised her and her brother in the world of men. But he's a lot like her, and a lot like her brother, and isn't that what every girl looks for in a man? Someone who likes what she likes? Someone who acts like the men in her life?

She's had crushes before. A lot of crushes. No more than the average girl! At least, she thinks so. Fire's gotten into the habit of just rolling his eyes and pointedly looking for something to do when she talks about the men she's loved, so maybe that means she's a little more fickle than the rest of the world. Or maybe that's just what brothers do. She's not sure. She knows that this isn't the same thing though. She doesn't get fluttery when she sees him or breathless when they resonate or anything dramatic like that. She just knows that she needs him in her life like she needs Earth and Rain and Cloud.

Oh, and she also knows that he loves her. That certainly helps. Maybe not the same way, sure, but still. He's always protective of her. Doesn't want her leaving in attractive clothing. Doesn't like it when he sees her show interest in men. Doesn't like to see her and her brother fight. Always makes sure to keep her favorite tea in the pantry. He's sweet to her. He does love her. But it isn't how she loves him. She's his surrogate daughter. That little girl who's all but sexless and almost indistinguishable from her brother. The one he cared for and kept even though he had no real duty to them. They are just his weapons. They don't need to be a family.

And maybe that isn't so strange. Little girls all want to marry their daddies, right? That's normal enough. The reason they stop is just the biology thing. But that's not a problem for them. The problem is him. He won't ever love her like she loves him, because he's the closest thing she's had to a real dad. And think of how weird it would be for Fire! Maybe it would be better if she just forgot about it. Let it go. Be just as flighty as she knows she can be. Use that energy to kick her feelings out.

But maybe those feelings are just like Fire, and trying to fan them out will just make them bigger.
