"Bitch hacked my computer!" He snarled.
Bang
Hands smashed the keyboard, smothering most of the keys. A glass of water that had wallowed untouched for a week on Camera's desk wobbled, threatening to tip. Camera threw himself from his well earned million-dollar laptop, the straight-backed desk chair toppling over with the force. He fumed, striding around the stark, overlarge bedroom, muttering and occasionally flinging his fist at nearby objects. As he made his fifth round of gait he slowed to a stand-still. His expression was now tranquil and almost lidded as he stared at the blank wall opposite. Then, a flicker of nervousness. He glanced at the computer.
With a shudder the laptop began to make strange noises. Eyes widened as the ruined screen suddenly wavered from blackness. Turning upon it with wild eyes Camera stumbled his way, snatching the paper-thin monitor between unsteady hands. The screen dithered along in unclear colors and rows of infinite numbers until-
Whiteness.
A single cloister-black A floated in the middle of the screen. The brightness of the display illuminated the stunned face of its owner and the surrounding room, turning the darkness to an eerie fluorescent blue.
"Hello Camera. "
"I believe this settles the matter? You challenged me. You asked for this. That was the deal. I took it, and I won. Now, I hold you to your promise. You know what will happen if you do not follow through."
"Meet me in one hour. You know the place."
The computer flashed twice then ceased.
Camera did not move. He did not speak. A statue was he. His mouth was dry from breathing her air.
He got it now.
She, that little bitch, had planned this from the beginning. She began the preparation the moment they met and he declared her his enemy. She knew he would eventually challenge her to beat his system. And she knew she could. Now that she had, she had complete control. It was all about control.
A low noise, similar to a strangled keening began from somewhere. Where did it come from? It grew to a painful, discombobulated noise that echoed,
echoed,
echoed
In the empty room. Like the sound an insane person. Someone mad. Suddenly everything he had worked for seemed obsolete. Then he realized the sound was laughter. And it came from him.
