Comfort

Spacegypsy1

Synopsis: Daniel needs comfort. Warning spoilers SG-1 and SGA all seasons.

Sam stood at Daniel's office doorway, silently watching him for a moment. "Hey," she finally managed to say.

"Hey." Daniel didn't look up from his work.

"Ah, it's done. They're on schedule for the 0900 unveiling in the morning." Staying put, she waited.

"Good. Jack coming?"

"Yeah, he's here already. Staying at my place." Her forced laugh sounded too loud in the quiet. "That's bound to cause some talk. But, everyone's coming by tonight. You know, beer and burgers. Sort of a get together. You coming?"

"I need to finish this. I'll see you tomorrow." He had yet to look up.

"Daniel."

He lifted his eyes to her. "I'm fine, Sam. Go on, have a good time. And don't forget Vala, she'd never forgive you." His smile was genuine, if barely perceptible.

Sam nodded and walked away.

Taking his glasses off, Daniel covered his face with his hands a moment, then rubbed his aching eyes.

At 0300 he stopped before the Gateroom door. The SF looked at him curiously. "Sir, no one's supposed to go in before 0900."

Daniel frowned. "You gonna shoot me?" He swiped his card and the door opened.

The SF turned away.

Daniel stood for a moment with his hands in his pockets, before suddenly yanking the curtain down.

…His eyes began to randomly scan the wall of too many names.

Martouf/Lantesh

Colonel Lionel Pendergrast

Kasuf

The Abydonians

There were many more but his eyes returned to the first name. He felt a presence behind him and dropped his head with a slight smile on his lips.

"Hello."

Hands in his pockets again, he turned and looked up. "Hey."

"I missed you."

"Hmm. Didn't you have fun?"

"No. Not a bit." A sweet smile graced her lips. "Come to bed."

His brows rose. "Come to bed or go to bed?"

"Daniel."

"How'd you know I was here?"

"Because I know you. Now come to bed. You talk. I'll listen. You cry. I'll hug. Come on." Vala took his hand and led him out the door.

"Sorry about your curtain." Daniel told the SF with a sheepish smile.

"Don't worry about it, Dr. Jackson. I'll fix it, go on."

Pursing his lips, Daniel nodded his thanks.

"Where are we going?" He let her guide him, too tired to care.

"My room. Yours is too stuffy. Mine is all girly. You need some softness. I need some giving back."

"Giving back?"

"Giving comfort, darling. For all the times you've comforted me. I really don't know how to do it other than hug and listen. That's good though, isn't it?"

"Yeah. That's good."
