Their faces were impossibly close. But Angela knew that this was nothing new. They were always invading each other's personal space, always in each other's faces. But this time it was different. They were sitting across from each other, staring into each other's eyes. It wasn't an 'I love you' stare, in fact it was nowhere close. But it wasn't the determined stare that they shared when they were arguing, even though both of them currently possessed intensely set features.
Neither of them had blinked in what seemed like forever.
Angela was still watching them when Hodgins came up behind her. "What are they doing?" he asked, as he joined her in staring at them.
Angela tilted her body in his direction, but did not remove her eyes from the staring pair. "I don't know. It's like they're trying to read each others mind or something."
"Or like they're trying to get under each other's skin even more. Just by looking at each other." Hodgins paused, then asked "How long have they been sitting there like that."
"I don't know." Angela replied "Two minutes? They haven't even said anything to each other."
"Oh" They both fell quiet and watched Booth and Brennan for another two or more minutes. Finally Booth couldn't stand it anymore. He blinked.
Brennan blinked seconds after he did. "HA! I told you I would win!" she proclaimed.
"Yeah, okay Bones, you win." Booth said with a roll of his eyes. Brennan smiled triumphantly. Angela tried to conceal a giggle.
"A staring contest?" said Hodgins, "You guys were having a staring contest? And here we thought you were having some sort of telepathic conversation with each other! What a letdown." He smirked at Angela.
"Sorry Hodgins. Brennan here thought she could beat me if we had a staring contest. It turns out she was right." Booth mumbled.
"Yes. Yes I was." Chuckled Brennan as she headed back towards her office. Booth
just rolled his eyes and followed after her.
